Grocery shopping these days.

Went to the liquor store and Safeway this afternoon around 5pm.

The LS was business as usual. I was the only one wearing a mask, but the guy greeted me by name, so the disguise wasn't working. Of course I occasionally drop over a 100 on some Scotch, so he likes me ;)

Safeway is usually a zoo around that time of day, but it was dead. Waiting lines with 6-ft-distance slots were marked out in the parking lot, but no one was waiting. Shelves seemed lightly stocked, but everything except hand sanitizer was there, just less of it. That included the fully loaded deli with meats and hot counter.

Maybe half the people, employees and customers, were masked. People made an effort to keep the distance, but often spaced out, including me, so there was a lot of back-stepping with "Sorry!" But nobody appeared stressed out about it.

All in all, a bit eery, but people are managing.

Lucky we live in rural Nevada...local Walmart was practically empty when it opened at 7:00am with ample supply of what we needed, even meats! Had two mild Italian sausages with my lentil rigatoni pasta (lentils...sorry Roman food Gods) this afternoon with a large romaine salad. Up early am for our long walk and to test some loads out in the BLM.

The last time I went to a public place was in early March, to go food shopping just before closing time. As I had hoped, there were fewer patrons and no check-out lines.

After my items were scanned, I asked the clerk if I should pay with Russian rubles or Cuban pesos. I got a blank look, so I explained to her that the place reminded me of a communist store, with all the empty shelves.

Don't do the senior hour. Seems one of our 3 area Wal-Marts stocks mid afternoon. Both times have gone there around 3 pm (after taking grandson home) they were restocking meat and toilet paper. Got some yesterday. Think they restock after morning rush and before evening.

A local fruit and vegetable wholesaler who supplies two regional universities that are closed has converted to retail. Put in your order on Sunday and pick up on Wednesday. They list on their website what they will have for the week. Bring it to your car at their loading dock. Very nice and high quality.

Not hoarding paper products but have a supply for friends, neighbors and family who may run short and need it so I pick it up when I see it.

I have a dozen supermarkets within 5 miles, plus Sams Club and BJ's, not an issue. Three major hospital complexes too. Lived the "country life" before, I like conveniences.

To be fair, some younger people were also wearing masks, but no older people were without one.

Saw a CNN link somebody posted with the surgeon general all dressed up like a sailor with the headline "Masks increase risk of virus."

Turns out that BEHAVIORS while wearing masks increased the risk. But nobody reads past the headline, right?

I would probably be more cavalier if I wasn't in a double whammy of risk groups with a pretty good chance of croaking if I catch it.

I still go out and about on occasion though. Can't stop livin' completely. Thankfully I was a bit of a recluse before all this stuff.

A few of the grocery stores in my rather large area have signs up at the entrance doors, ''Please only 1 person to a cart"

To be honest I have not seen it enforced!

There's so many single parent families with no other family in this city I don't think they can enforce it here.

Our stores don't have paper products, a shipment may come in but goes fast even with a two per limit. Meat, what meat, none as of yesterday. Chicken, sorry not anymore. Produce was hit and miss sometimes it is just gone. Pasta, off brands, and shapes only. Eggs are back and abundant again.

Lines to get in are hit and miss store by store. Stores only allow a certain number of shoppers and now have directional aisles, one way only.

The higher end stores seem to have more selection and fewer lines.

Life has a very Soviet Union feel around here, lines to go into an half empty store. Government making you do things you don't want to when you dont want to do it. Welcome to 2020 America :(

ParadiseRoad, I finally figured out that if you wait until 8:30 or 9 AM on the early bird day, all the early shopping crowd has finished and the stores aren't very crowded at that time.

We've got an overabundance of toilet paper and plenty of meat. Paper towels are available, but not every brand. Still shortages on alcohol, hand sanitizer, Lysol, bleach, and liquid hand soap. We'll get most of those items in on a regular basis, but not in the quantities we need. They are sold through very quickly.

Last order I got 30 cases of Germ X hand sanitizer. It was gone in a couple of hours even at a limit of one per customer. Two cases of face masks came in. They were gone within minutes. We did have a big shortage of Tylenol and its store brand equivalents. That is finally starting to come in again. Still not the full variety, but at least it's available again.
