Grocery prices

Have you noticed the the stores flyers do not put in the egg & prices?
At least in the five flyers that I get every tuesday, in the mail.

Our local Aldi store had an apology notice posted on the door of the egg cooler and they usually have the cheapest eggs around. Easter isn't too far off so I guess the sky will be the limit on egg prices.

I've been doing a little Prepping.
Extra food and even some MREs.

Cutting Food Costs - Still Eating Well

We do not moan and groan about what prices were in the past.

Our efforts are to minimize current costs.

We usually buy "Weekly Sale" and Marked Down Items.

We have a well stocked pantry of shelf stable foods.

Have not bought any fresh meat that was not Marked Down in long time.

We buy "Short Date" "Marked Down" items for quick use or freezing.

Buy "Short Date" "Marked Down" meat for use today and tomorrow. FREEZE for Later.

The cheapest thing in the store is often me.

After Thanksgiving we bought 180 packaged of Pepperidge Farm Stuffing Mix
Marked Down to 50 Cents from Factory Printed price of $2.99.
Delivered and Donated to a food pantry.

Maybe chocolate and marshmellows, this year ?

Maybe it is time to give the chickens and the ranchers a "Rest" !!

I lived in Kobe, Japan in the early 2000 time frame. The local markets sold beef by the GRAM. It was common practice to carry around about a $1,000 US - in yen. Gasoline (in liters) was about $7.00 a gallon. Return trips home seemed like food was almost free.

You know those "Helpers" come in different flavors , right ?

Plus there is also rice instead of noodles.

Maybe try the noodles, if'n you like tuna fish. :D

Mrs. Native bought a box of StoveTop Stuffing for crab cakes and used canned tuna.
The single egg used for a binder might have put it out of reach for the masses ;):)

A lot of the prices depend on where you shop. We went to our local Walmart and then to a Kroger less than a mile away. The Kroger store was at least 25% higher on every item we compared.

The local IGA store in my town eggs are now almost $9.00 a dozen.
The Aldi store in the next town eggs were $4.62 a dozen.
Helmans mayo is $9.00 for a 30 oz jar up from $5.00 a jar last November.
Last year I bought 20 1 1/2" porterhouse steaks for $5.00 a pound now its up into the $18.00 range or more.

Most prepackaged stuff is now just empty calories with little nutritional value. Another form of shrinkflation. Less food 'packaged' into more filler.

I'm thinking that potato chips could be packaged in a smaller bag without losing weight.

Go to your local landscaping business and get a bag of river rock to paint as Easter eggs.

It isn't as if the kids eat the darn things anyway. :D

Can't honestly blame all the higher costs on price gouging.

Some people don't have a clue. They look at a company's increased profits over a period of time and call it price gouging. If you add in their increased costs it is very likely that their margin for profit has stayed the same as before the increases.

Just goes to show how some people only believe the news they like. I like news that makes me think.
