"Group Shot" Photo Thread - If You Have More than One...

I love the detailed photos of individual guns, but there is something about a volume shot of a bunch of S&Ws that is really impressive. Here it is, a thread for those group photos we all take when we have the "S&W family" out of the safe and all all lined up for our personal gun show.

My brother is an "automatic" kinda guy. So his son, my nephew, grew up shooting autos. Had never fired a revolver.

The poor boy. I felt for him. So I took him to the range. Looking at this picture, I see that not ALL of them are Smiths. Hell, some of 'em ain't even revolvers. But most of 'em are.



Going from the bottom up, there's a 29-2, a 65-5, a 544, a 22-4, a 28-2 that's been converted to 38/40, a New Departure 38 (5th Model? - last model, anyway), a 625 Model of 1988, and a Victory. Hmmmm. That's only 8 out of 17. Guess that's not really "most". But pretty close. Along with one Springfield, two Rugers, one Colt, one American Derringer, one Beretta, one Walther, one H&K and one Erma.

That's nothing to bat an eye at! Looks great! Is that an M&P with a hump back hammer on the lower left?

RK..... Those are phenomenal. The Diamond "inlays" are really nice.

Is that all factory engraving, or a combination of factory and others, or all others? Whose work is whose?

Man, you could go to barbecues all year long and never wear the same gun twice!

Those fancy S&Ws all bunched up remind me of an art museum hanging the paintings too close together. They start to compete for attention and detract from one another. JMO.

I have one "group shot" taken when I had to empty one of the safes a few years ago so I could move it. Not all Smiths, and some are no longer with me.

Is that all factory engraving, or a combination of factory and others, or all others? Whose work is whose?

All of them are post-war 357s, pre-27 pintos and each of them are factory engraved. The top two are engraved by Harry Jarvis, with what is believed to be Alvin White on the stocks. The bottom two are engraved by my favorite factory engraver - Sigfried Rentzschke. And the middle two are not positively attributed to an engraver, but most likely engraved by Russ Smith, Virginia LaBlanc or Harry Jarvis. I believe that the stocks on each of the guns, shipped with that specific gun.

It has taken a lot of years (and dollars) to pull that group of engraved 357 pintos together. It has also taken the kindness and willingness of several collectors who frequent this forum to allow me to consolidate this herd.

First off - Love your group photo!!!

There is part of me that agrees with that 100% with your art museum comparison - it is the same part that was overwhelmed when Cheryl Cheely displayed Roy's pre-war 357 collection at the Tucson collectors' Symopsium. Each gun was worthy of its own display and I found it hard to focus on any one individually, because as soon as I started to focus, something else would catch my eye. ... Now, the other part of me kind of enjoys the "view from space" and finds the beauty in a balloon level view of a Corvette collector's show that captures the scope of the show itself.

Keep the photos coming, I love the shots of well-worn shooters, lovingly used through the years for their intended purpose.

Here's my group of pre-27's with short barrels. I've shown
these before, but not together.

The 3 1/2" factory nickel pre-27 shipped on June 29, 1950 and
is wearing a set of ivory magnas.

The blue pre-27 has a factory 4" Special barrel Length Varia-
tion and shipped on April 22, 1957 to H. H. Harris Co., Chi-
cago, Ill. It's all original, including the magna grips.

Both pre-27's have factory letters, and I believe both were
working guns as evidenced by the holster wear. Now to find
a nice model 27 with a 5 " barrel to add to the group.

Notice the intricate...well almost intricate hand work..on these very rare examples. I'll bet you don't have these in your collection...huh..do ya?? Well...I didn't think so.

If you look closely...the top and bottom fine examples, actually have a very famous signature on them, I'll bet you don't have that signature either...
