Guess I Won't Buy a Car Until Oct. 15

My grandfather had a Lincoln with suicide doors back in the 60's. Kinda cool, but they called 'em that for a reason. I'm surprised RR brought it back.

I also don't understand a battery operated vehicle that's worth as much as a nice home.

I don't know who this kid is, but daddy obviously has money!

I had a AMT model of a 1968 Lincoln Continental that had those Suicide doors. I painted it a soft matte black. No where near as cool as this though.

I'd swear that I saw a current Lincoln with suicide doors at my favorite Greek restaurant a couple months ago.

There is a 61 for sale locally, I'm trying not to go look at it!

Nothing current - it's all SUVs now, but a few years back they made an expensive limited edition with suicide doors. 80th anniversary edition. Was $110,000 in 2019. Only 80 were made. I imagine one in pristine condition will be quite valuable one day.

I remember my parents had a 70. It was the first year of regular doors. 69 still had the suicide doors.

That's it. Saw it on the south side of Charlotte, NC. No idea if it was 1/80 from 2019 or 1/150 from 2020.

I saw a Rolls Royce Spectre on the freeway a few months ago. I had to look it up when I got home and discovered It's an EV with suicide doors and a range of up to 264 miles. They can top $400,000 before tariffs.

Not for me, but the owner obviously didn't worry about getting a speeding ticket. He disappeared in a flash and I was going 75-80!

My parents neighbor had a Rolls, it was very luxurious inside (had mink floor mats). It was a great ride, heavy as a tank 😂

I wouldn't buy any new vehicles. Ford and GM currently have stop sales. Millions upon millions have also been recalled. Makes me wonder if is over all QC or a supplier issue.

Ford Places Another 355,000 F-Series Trucks Under Stop-Sale for Latest Recall

Ford's terrible recall record continues with yet another affecting not only the Super Duty but also the F-150.

A reference to the movie Spaceballs. It was a sendup of Star Wars and Star Trek. Instead of warp speed they had ludicrous speed which left a trail of plaid light behind the ship. Hence, the saying they've gone to plaid. Elon Musk named his Tesla Plaid after that gag, by the way.

I once read that it cost $600 for the raw materials to build a Ford Explorer. If you tax that at 100% it would only add a few percentage points to the total selling price of $25k a long time ago. Tariffs on imports when we import 10 times what we export are an effective deterrent to that horrendous balance of trade discrepancy with the world that is draining our national net worth. I would rather buy the best vehicle that exists for a good price regardless of where it is built. Then it will last me possibly for the rest of the time I am driving. I spent most of my life recycling salvage vehicles and drove for no cost other than my labor. Now I can not do that anymore.
Inflation from 2020 to 2024 cost us 25% of our life's work to establish retirement security. Most everything we import, especially from China is garbage, even lead in plastic toys we give our children. I watched the people at the restaurant walk away from food that could save people from starvation. We have never, in 35 years left ANY food on the table at any restaurant.
China doesn't need to beat us, they can just buy us and we will walk into that situation like it is no problem. Just as many have walked into their own doom unwittingly ignorant of the peril.
While we hate each other for no decent reason, they will steal our heritage, our lives with Fentanyl, and our children's future with poverty. They are thinking decades in advance while we fight useless battles that make us weaker every day.

As Patrick Henry said a very long time ago. If we DONT hang together we will be hung separately.

What tariff can compare to being robbed of over $200 k of your life's efforts to insure your last few years are comfortable. Are we really THAT STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I would say there is probably less than $15 worth of raw material in a Registered Magnum. It's the craftsmanship and assembly that makes the product.

The only thing that the "raw material" comparison directly compares with would be a gold, one ounce US American Eagle.... Its intrinsic value of $3350 is almost identical to the actual value of $3350

Clearly, this man has never driven an American car. The quality of American vehicles has sucked from my entire 30+ year lifetime. There are some that are acceptable, but they do not have the longevity of Asian or European vehicles in my experience. I've watched myself buy enough Fords and Chevys and worked with enough, Fords, Chevys, and Dodgers to know just how much I don't want another American car.

With regards to the parts, it's a few thousand dollars in raw materials, and a few thousand dollars in labor and transit costs.

I can double that and add a bunch...

I've drive American vehicles my entire life. Our current rides are some of the finest on the planet.

You want to keep bashing American workers, our products and our Constitution/Bill of Rights, I suggest you go elsewhere...

Mmmm the taste of the finest leather!

Nothing as American as a faux sense of patriotism and veiled threats of compelled association with an authority figure's perceived biases!
