I'm with you guys. I'll take the old school steel and wood over the Tupperware stuff almost anytime for shooting and collecting. I do carry my old department Glock that has a trigger pull like a staple gun.
I don't discriminate...round, square, metal, plastic. A good gun is a good gun. Now, some may suit my needs/wants more than others.
I usually carry a polymer double-stack 9mm, but I also carry a snubby revolver BUG. Sometimes I only have the revolver.
While I don't carry them, I love my Colt 1911s, and would like to add more.
I've mentioned this several times in these forums, but my grail gun is a 640ND (ONE DAY!!!).
And I'd love to get a SAA clone, maybe something like an Artillery model.
OP's post reminded me of a story I read, I believe in Ed Lovette's The Snubby Revolver. It was a recruit training class for DEA Special Agents. They were doing scenario training and one of the students secured a revolver during a room-clearing exercise. The problem was the student didn't know how to unload the revolver to make safe. None of the other students knew, either. The instructor gathered them around and showed them. Chances are, that'll probably be the only experience they'll have working with revolvers.
Super Bs tend to be very tight grouping revolvers. I much prefer their larger grip over the standard Blackhawk MR3Red. I let them roll in my hand until the muzzle nearly points up. Doing that makes firing standard .44 Magnum cartridges more comfortable than firing them in N frames. Super Bs are great revolvers for hobbyists and hunters. Never mind the kids. You are just as likely to need your Super B. to fight off Big Foot as the "plastical tactical" buyers are to need their new pistol to fight off who ever they're worried about.
I spotted a used stainless SBH at a shop and asked to see it. The young lady took it out but when she went to clear it she couldn't figure how to open it up. No cylinder release. No mag release. She got a little exasperated and handed it to me saying "I don't know how get these things open".
Dang you Acorn! I used to have a love for Roger BH's in 45 Colt. Owned at least half a dozen of them. Loved all but the one SS one that came to me with a barrel fit to the frame out of square.
After reading this I am hankering for another. Just something about lobbing those big ol punkins down range with a single action that I miss.
Same here. My present favorite is my Lipsey Stainless new model blackhawk in 44 Special. Its the one I carry in an old M3 shoulder holster in wintertime. All this talk a about singles and no photos??? Here is my Vaquero in 45lc and my Single Six convertible.
I'm currently working a deal on a New Vaquero in 357. I hope my FFL is ready make room for more Tupperware.
Dino or not, I love my single actions.
Jeff, is it the shop in Dravosburg? They are only selling by appointment. Never heard of that before the current situation.
Allegheny Arms. I believe that's Bethel Park address, down Library Road (Rt. 88) off 51 S. I had the gun sent to them when I bought it through GB from DR Gun Supply. When I bought it, March 16th, I had no idea there was gonna be this rush to the gun shops...stupid me! I was just surprised to see this revolver was available, so I jumped on it. By the time it got to the store Gov. Wolf decided to allow the FFLs to only do business for face to face business, by appt. only.(FFL stuff) I don't know if you've ever used that shop or visited them, but co-owner Josh is a Helluva good smith. Beretta is their strong point, but he's very honest and their people are good. He did a great job on a .45 SA Uberti for me. Great price and very quick turn around. I saw a couple guns in their pre-owned cabinet I wanted to take home...good prices, I think, at least for me!
That might be true in NYC but was done away with years ago in the rest of the state. You can load 10.
Chapter 3 page 42A of Firearms and Weapons laws, written by Lee Thomas and Jeffery Chamberlain. (the gun owners bible)
This yearly updated publication is sold at many gun stores and can be purchased from the authors!
My Wish..........everybody else sells their revolvers for very cheap, and let us dinosaurs pick up all the blued (some nickel) steel and hardwood guns for a song. Fingers Crossed!!!
