Picked up a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 AR today. The magpul version and a spare mag. I also picked up a pretty sweet case! Im excited to take it out shooting monday! I like the magpul flip up sights quite a bit, it will be nice when I buy a red dot or something like that in the future. Im excited to find this form and see what others have done! Ill have pics coming soon!

Thanks everyone! I was about to buy a real .223, Was looking at the smith and wesson sport version since it was a cheaper rifle. But I talked myself out of it with the cost of ammo. I have a glock and shotgun already and they are good guns, but even those I do not like to shoot a ton since I know it will add up fast and I really just love target shooting. I figured even though this route was expensive, it would be a heck of a lot cheaper in the long run! I am happy with my purchase! I will see if I can get some pics today, but will have some shooting pics tomorrow

Update:

Threw about 300 rounds through it today

Love the heck out of it, only thing that was weird is the sound it makes when you fire, almost sounds really plasticy and also loading the mags over and over = sore thumbs! I defiantly want to buy a bunch more mags. Will keeping mags loaded for long periods of time mess up the springs? Can I load them and leave em sit for a month or less and be ok? It is also super easy to fire off 25 rounds pretty quick and go through ammo like its nothing! I am so glad I bought this over a real .223 because that would get expensive VERY VERY VERY FAST!

I also won a Magpul AFG2 on ebay this morning, excited for that, just need a red dot and a bunch of mags and im done! I picked up a sweet rifle bag too!

Keeping magazines loaded will have no effect upon the springs whatsoever. It is the flexing of use that wears them out.

I have over 80 magazines (for various firearms) that are never empty except for the few minutes between shooting and reloading. Most of them have been loaded for several years on a continuous basis.

You'll be fine leaving the magazines loaded, although I doubt they'll last loaded too long.

I do agree about the reloading though, especially as it's important not to cheat when loading unless you want FTF issues.

You'll end up with a 15-Sport. I started with a 15-22, and added a 15-Sport a few months later. There's nothing more fun than shooting a .223/5.56.

I have a glock and shotgun already and they are good guns, but even those I do not like to shoot a ton since I know it will add up fast and I really just love target shooting.

You can get inexpensive Russian steel case for about 22 - 23 cents a round. The cool thing about the 15-Sport is that it cycles the least expensive practice ammo well.

I can get a 4 shot group within the diameter of a circle at 100yards using iron sights, Russian steel case, and fore end on a rest.

This was shot with a 14.7" barreled budget AR I assembled. I shoot similar groups with the 15-Sport. I just didn't keep any of the targets

Since you have the 15-22, it will economize your 15-Sport experience. Warm up and work out the kinks with the inexpensive .22lr, then transition to the 15-Sport.
