Factory guide rods for the full size 645 (and 4506, etc.) are getting very hard to find. If you would like a solid stainless steel guide rod, you can contact Paul (a member of this forum) at :

He made two for me last year. They're not cheap, but the workmanship is wonderful. Both rods work great in my 645, 4506-1. Good luck.

I know Ebay get's a bad rap here, but it can pay off. May 12th I got an Ebay email for a NOS 4506 etc guide rod. $30.00 shipped buy it now. I hoard parts so I couldn't resist.

That was an example of a good Ebay experience. A bad example was when two ATF Agents came to my house to get back "their" complete S&W 3rd Gen, full size 9mm top end I got. I've had more positive experiences than negative. Actually I've only had one bad Ebay experience but is was REALLY BAD.

Actually, I think $30 for a NOS 4506 S&W factory rod is not bad at all. However, I really, really don't like buying off Ebay. Besides, a solid S/S guide rod will last forever and is lovely to look at. ;) In fact, I have two or three new factory full length guide rods in my parts kit (like you I hoard S&W 3rd Gen parts). Nonetheless, I bought two of these S/S beauties because I prefer solid S/S rods, he gave a discount on the second rod ordered, and who knows how long Paul may be around making these little pieces of art.

Good luck and good shooting to all, may you be lucky enough to find a pristine 4576 (1,386 made per Roy Jinks) on consignment for less than five hundred bucks.

I'll 2nd a shout-out for Paul & his guide rods. I bought two also & both he & his parts are top notch.

The top guide rod is Paul's & the bottom is a factory S&W 5" guide rod.

I recently had Paul make me a few stainless steel guide rods for my 4506-1s and the fit and function are flawless. Very glad I was able to obtain these. I'm much appreciative to Paul Howell for his good work.

I had Paul make me a couple for my 945's a while back . He knows what he's doing and makes a beautiful product . Get one from him and your grandkids will be using it far into the future .
