Guide rods for CS9?

Have you called the factory? I don't see any on line. Midway has them listed as "out of stock, no back order".
If you can't get one from S&W, there's always the DIY option of shortening a 457 guide rod (Smith & Wesson Recoil Spring Guide Assembly S&W 457 - MPN: 239870000).
I've shortened a number of S&W guide rods using a dremel w/ metal cut-off wheel, a diamond benchstone (for rounding the edges), and some sandpaper. To be safe, I recommend cutting through the guide rod slowly, and dip it in water to cool it down as you go.

OP - Create a notification - they were in stock fairly recently.
Well, I have gotten so used to S&W saying no support for 3rd gen parts I didn't even think to give them a call. Kind of silly of me. I will do that first, although they would only have the nylon. Thanks for the idea on the 457 rod, I will get a couple and work on them unless i find some other source for a correct rod.

Thanks for the tip on the 457 guide rod - I purchased one this week and shortened it with a mini hacksaw and filed to fit.
I also purchased one for a 4516 as mentioned in another forum thread. It is SS rather than black but is dimensionally the same other than for length.
I had emailed S&W back in May and they wrote back that the CS9 recoil spring guide rod is permanently out of production; they referred me to Jack First Gun Parts in SD.

No problem, and glad it worked out for you. I have a few 457 guide rods in the parts bin just in case I ever need one for a 457, 4040PD, or any of the Chiefs Special models.
I was told that vendor received a lot of the surplus parts stock S&W sold off.
I picked up some new-style 4506 guide rods before they were gone from the factory. I used most of them to be cut down as spares for some of my other shorter 3rd gen guns that used the older staked-style guide rods (some of which had the older aluminum rod bodies).
FWIW, my early production CS45 black guide rod can be picked up with a magnet. It came with a black nylon plunger, but I later received some stainless plungers when I once ordered some spare parts, so they've used both at various times.
