Gun coatings

The bake on phenolic coatings are abrasion resistant, rust resistant/rust proof, and some have added dry lubricant to the formula. Solvents will not smear or remove a finish like Moly-Resin, not powder solvent or even brake cleaner.

In my experience, this surface is trouble free, more so than even stainless steel, especially i n a sweaty environment like my holster. Looks decent as well.

Walter Birdsong Black (T)

I have an 870 that I want to have coated. BIrdsong's black T finish looks like the best, but I have to ship the gun and pay going and coming which raises the price a bit. Does anyone have any experience with the finishes put there and if so what are your choices???? Would I get the same protection with duracoat? ALso I see a lot of local smiths doing their thing ans am wondering if their finishes are as good as the black T>
Let me hear your input.

Now.

:D
Is Black (T) still available at the factory in Miss. We used to get about every duty piece (Black T) up untill about 10 years ago...I had heard from a good gun-smith that Walter has died, I know that they do some military jobs and the factory is very secured and the gun business was a side line because of Walters interest in guns . We had heard about black t, belive it or not from Jerry Clower (knock em out John) fame as they were friends. At the time Jerry was master of ceramonies at the Mo. state fair..that was in the 70's.......Some gunsmiths said that black T would soften the metal due to the process...I found that hard to belive as the process was originally made for subs. That was not verified...Walter was a good guy and took care of Law Enforcement and the finish was almost indestrutable as far as I could tell.....I would like to know if anybody has the info, as I have a piece that I would love to ger Blact T on...
