The anti-gun climate in New York City and the surrounding suburbs is hard to imagine if you live in a gun friendly part of the country. Having been born and raised in NYC, and having numerous relatives still living there and in the suburbs, I would bet that few if any citizens would think anything negative about a plan to outright confiscate privately owned firearms. I have mentioned this in many different threads, but there is an almost pathological fear of guns among much of the population there and you can often hear it said that "only the police should be allowed to have guns". This is notwithstanding the reality that criminals use guns every day to rob, kill and terrorize unarmed civilians, and only the truly delusional think the police can respond quickly enough to save the unarmed citizen. I have relatives who admit that the statement "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away" is true and likely to always be true in the future, but they still cannot comprehend owning a gun for self defense.
My guess is that there are several states where, in general, the idea of total gun confiscation would be readily accepted by a majority of the citizens there. These states include NY, NJ, Conn, Mass, Rhode Island, Maryland and possibly Delaware as well. California, dominated by LA and SF, probably also would support confiscation but the rural parts of the state would at least try to fight such a move. We truly are becoming two distinct nations when it comes to support versus disdain for the rights we have under the 2nd Amendment.
