Gun Control Myths - I don't know if I ever saw this on the forum

Again, another who MISREAD the question and meaning. I give up. Have a nice one.

I don't see how I misread the question.

You said, "...why are you afraid of a background check? If you have no negative past? then no worries"

That's right up there with "why are you afraid of the cop searching your car if you don't have contraband?" or "why are you afraid of the NYPD stop-and-frisk, is you're not carrying drugs or guns?"

For that matter, how about "why would you be afraid of a cop knocking on your door and saying he wanted to search your house, if you have nothing illegal in your house?"

Same thing, really. Even though the police have no reason to suspect I'm a drug dealer, I have to prove to them I don't have drugs hidden under the bed. Even though the NYPD has no reason to suspect that I'm doing anything illegal, I have to prove to them (by being searched) that I'm not. Even though the cop that pulled me for speeding has no reason to suspect I'm carrying stolen property in the trunk, I should let him search my car.

And even though I have never done anything to make the government think I am a criminal, I have to prove to the government that I am NOT a criminal, before they let me buy a gun.

You didn't direct it at me, but you asked "...why are you afraid of background checks?"

I never implied you were for them. I simply answered your question.

One last. OK, maybe not worded correctly but--I dont know the guy, probably never will meet, so I dont know if he has any skeletons hiding in his closet. Yeah, I dont care for Govt sticking noses into my business-but, I do know my background is cleaner than Mr. Cleans bald head. One further thing on my Nephew denied three times. When buying the guns he wanted--had another call made--same a few minutes later--and was approved--same bat time, same bat channel.

I also am aware that for awhile last year-that 25% buying guns-had been denied for one reason or another-and the claim is this--because of so many buying guns. Im only the messenger-not the one who figured up this stuff.

As Paul Harvey would say: Good Day. :-))

BC checks can be kind of funny. (funny = ha ha) The only time I have ever been delayed was when I bought a old Colt at a local gun show. The dealer called it in and got a "no-go" no explanation. He took my name and ph. # and called me a couple of days later asking if I still wanted it. Since I was now a "go". I said yes and he brought it over. He said they never did tell him why I was first held up.

What makes it funny is, he was a retired cop and said before he retired he had been held up several times. And never got a explanation. The only logical reason I can see is we both have very common names.

They can easily.....

I am not afraid of the background check itself, I am against who is running it. On a call in I get denied and have to wait then get an approval. System sucks if you know how it works your name goes in a block of names and if someone close fails so do you till farther checking. I got my concealed carry no problem, I have no background. My brother in law had a FBI agent get an initial denial. Hows that. In MT there is no wait if you pass the check or have a concealed permit. The FBI guy was very POed, he got the explanation from his boss. The government can and will mess up anything.

They can easily 'make' a reason for me not to have a gun. But nobody checks into criminal's backgrounds when they steal a weapon or buy one off the street.
