I'm sure I'm not the only one who's suffered this event before. Blame it on A&E (age and eyesight) or late onset optimistic memory.

I have been working on better focusing my humble collection. So, I was digging in the bottom of my safe. One gun that I had always consider a shooter+ grade turned out to be fae more complete and higher condition that my mind or inventory said. That was the TD. Shouldn't have gotten my hope up. Next one was listed as all original, shooter++ grade turned out to be reblued upon reexamination. All the rollmarks were crisp--not posished out--but the diligent smith blued the numerous pits and all. Sack 1.

Sack 2 was another one that was original finish bout about 30% less than my mind or inventory said it had.

Am I on the fring here?

No not on the edge. But "I" have noticed in myself as I age your perspective of things, including firearms, changes as time goes on. My collection isn't much but as I go through them from time to time I find they are better than I had originally graded them. Most of that rethinking has come from the knowledge I have gained here on the forum for which I am very grateful and understanding this is all there is of these.

Randy I am in the same situation.

I'm in my Golden Years and actually my wife and I were talking about the value of the firearms last night.

I went through the Gun Safe and I found some were in a lot better shape than I remembered. Of course some hunting rifles and a shotgun were in much worse shape than I thought.

I really plan on selling everything off eventually and take an around the world cruise.

I perused my collection recently and was disturbed to find 3 were cocked in rugs. I'm confident I didn't leave them cocked and nobody but me looked at them since I did last. Its a mystery.

Randy:

I have found in my own collection, that as I have become more experienced, I evaluate my guns with a more informed perspective. Little blemishes that at one time did not bother me in the least - now bother me... I regularly update my view of my collection when I pull some of them out for a personal gun show, or when I pull them out to clean and wax them... There are regular occurrences of me saying to myself - "I forgot how nice this one was" or "dang... I never noticed that before..." So, a long way of saying that I can relate to you.:)

Do you find your spending more time Ren waxing and wiping your guns more than shooting them. Seems like loading all that gear then coming home and unloading and cleaning everything is alot of work. My golden years were my 20s and 30s.......................................M*
