I recently purchased a 6906 for concealed carry at a gun show really good condition. I called smith and was told it's was manufactured in 1989 police issued it was either not used much or really cared for I was shocked to find out it was that old by the condition. I paid $290(good?) how dose the earlier model compare to the late models? Thanks

I don't know what the differences in year models of the 6906 might be, but mine is a LEO turn-in and I paid something like $350. If it's in good shape, I think you got a good deal.

$290 is a VERY good price for a nice 6906.

I only saw one 6906 at the local gunshow last Saturday. Used, no box, one mag, $595 FIRM !!??!! Enjoy that fine 6906! Regards 18DAI

You scored big time! That's a very reasonable price. I paid a lot more
than that for mine. A very enjoyable gun. By the way, its commonly

Great price!

Some police issued had minor changes made to them depending on the contract. Like a PD may want milled hammers vs MIM.

Now that you've got pics posted it looks pretty good. I see so far that
you've yet to be warned about 3rd Genitis...well, never mind. It's
probably too late anyway. It's a common disease around here.

That's a great price, Congrats! Even though I favor the rounded trigger, for that price I wouldn't have hesitated.

I would call that a normal price for a squared off trigger guard model. I paid almost 400 for mine and sold it for what I paid for it but it was a round trigger guard model.

Other then the trigger guard any other differences? Looking at the two I thank the square trigger guard looks better.

No difference other than cosmetic, the early guns had the square guard. My 5904 has the square guard, you get about a 1/4" longer opening than with the round guard. Enjoy your 6906, there great guns.

Some of the early model 6906's (and other 3rd generation pistols) had a regular fixed rear sight similar to those on the late 2nd generations. After a while the drift adjustable Novak Lo Mount Carry Sights with 3 white dots became the standard. Other than that, and the hooked or square trigger guard, they are virtually identical.

I thought those were the transition guns. Very few of those.

The RSR serial numbered guns like the model 6690 are true transitional guns made with a 2nd generation upper and a 3rd generation frame and grip.

I bought an early model 6906 with the square trigger guard. It was a police trade in but had the early 3 dot fixed sights. I had a gunsmith remove the existing sights and milled the rear sight slot to the proper dimensions and added the Novak Lo Mount Tritium sights.
