I just got back from the Rose City Gun, Knife and Chinese Junk Show in Portland, OR. I actually purchased a Model 10-5 (haven't purchased a gun at this show in at least 25 years) for $339.00 OTD. Serial number is in the C935XXX range with a tapered barrel. It's a solid 90% gun, lock up is tight and bore and charge holes are like new. Just the gun, no box etc. With a good cleaning it should be closer to 95%. The amazing thing is the price and the fact that I had $500.00 dollars in my pocket (a miracle in itself). It's the only Smith & Wesson I saw in the entire show under $500.00. It's in "state line" jail and I can pick it up on Monday or Tuesday depending on my schedule (working 2nd shift). I'll post photos later in the week.

Congrats! I just did that exact thing... found a pristine 10-5 in a gunshop and made it my own for not much more than that.

love it!

raisedin99,

Barrel length is four inches and a square butt. I'm still looking at the receipt in disbelief. This show is famous for overpriced guns, ammo, components, military surplus and Chinese junk. I guess "Fast Cash" pawn shop didn't think a .38 special revolver was worth a whole lot:)

A few years ago I hemmed and hawed over a 97% 10-5 4" at a Billings gun show, before handing over $269 for it. It's a gem, shoots like a house afire.

I'd say you did pretty well.

I picked up the Model 10 yesterday before work and had my wife take it home (can't have guns at wafer plants, even in your vehicle). This morning when I got home I had a look at it, got my tape measure and it's a five inch taper barrel (how did i miss that?) getting old I guess. I cleaned it up this afternoon before I left for work and plan to take a few photos in the morning after I get home. I'll post them Saturday as I'll be at my other house with the better computer. This one's not so good.

Its fun to go back in the past. There was a time not so long ago when that would have been a $200 gun. I'm not sure if it was really a screaming deal at the price you paid or not, but I'm guessing you won't find another like it again. And keep in mind the price hasn't really gone up, the value of your dollars has gone down that much. But then I still remember Cokes going from 5 cents up to a dime. I'd say you did do very well and maybe need to consider putting extra $ in your billfold in case you ever do see another.
