I think I posted before about looking for gun socks. I never did buy any after that thread. I have been using gun rugs but that leaves almost zero space in my safe. I was at the former Gander Mountain yesterday and picked up two Allen brand handgun socks. When I got home the label read ""Warning can cause cancer (paraphrase). I will try to return them today.

I am going to use regular men's socks. My question is what color or material? My concern is colors bleeding onto grips or discoloring the frame on autos.
I am thinking white cotton socks. Any experiences with socks?

I've had no problem over 40 years. Heavy athletic cotton socks to give reasonable padding, white so I can write on outside with permanent marker with ID info. The white does show stain from gun oil over time but that is harmless.

A late friend kept his handguns in plain white athletic sox. I assume they were a cotton/polyester blend with some "rubber" in the blend for stretch. If I remember correctly he bought the socks and then washed and dried them to get anything (like salt) out. He then turned the socks in-side-out and spritzed them with aerosol gun oil. He then turned them right-side-out again and stuck the gun inside. As far as I know he didn't have any rust issues related to this method of storage.

You are more likely to get hit by a semi carrying exotic animals and then killed by an escaped tiger while driving to return those gun socks than you are likely to contract any form of cancer by storing your pistols in those . . .

These socks work for me. Got them at either Brownells or Amazon.

But I prefer the blanket. I got this one at Brownells. Takes up no room at all.

Regular white mens socks cause cancer in the state of California: A person has gotten cancer while wearing them. I smell a class action...pun intended.

Been using SackUps for a while.
Guns and Knives.
Knife Sackies are also handy for carrying auto Mags.
Yes Virginia, even hardcore Revolver guys have some Autos.

Gun oil...

Being a petroleum product with chemical additives, I'm sure that it causes cancer, especially in California. So handling guns is very bad for your health....in certain locales. And don't even get me started on gun solvents.

Look at the warning label closely, the gun socks probably only cause cancer in California.

Wash your hands after handling them. Problem solved.

For nickel guns I use Borestores & for blued / parked I use Zcorr Mil Spec VCI storage bags . Both seem to work down here in the high humidity Gulf Coast .

I buy rifle socks. Cut them to what ever length I need, my wife sews one end closed and puts a draw string in the other. One hand gun sock isn't much cheaper than one rifle sock. Buy the rifle socks in a six pack and it makes for some cheap hand gun storage.
