Perhaps 15 years ago, I took a brand new, still in the original cosmoline, WWII Remington Rand into my LGS for an appraisal.
The back story is that, my friend's father served in WWII and was issued this RR and a new US marked holster. However, the soldier had his own personal .45ACP revolver (Colt Model 1917), and carried his personal weapon throughout Europe during the war. When he mustered out, he kept these two guns, which eventually came into my hands.
The LGS employee looked at it, listened to the back story, promptly gave me an 80% finish rating on this piston, and told me the Blue Book value for an 80% Remington Rand GI .45 ACP pistol
This pistol was in 100% condition. Even a then-naive me thought the appraisal was nonsense.
I cleaned up the gun, and took it to the range, of course.
