I have a micro-cloth in my safe and have noticed micro imprints on my guns after a coating of Eezox was applied and the gun was stored away dry.

What also concerns me is whether the micro-cloth absorbs the oils from the gun.

What do you use?

Thanks in advance.

I keep the guns in my safe on gun racks... not wrapped in cloth - and definitely NOT stored in holsters.

Do the marks you see wipe clean?

I use coated wire racks as well, I'm not sure keeping them wrapped in any cloth/paper for storage is the best way to store guns. As far as the markings are concerned I'd try cleaning them with a suitable cleaner or try polishing them with liquid Flitz.

The markings may well be all that's left of the EEzox once the carrying agent evaporated. At any rate it shouldn't have etched the metal just left a little goo! Hopeyou get them squared away.

I keep my guns in "sack up" gun socks in the safe. Is this not a good idea?

I store my handguns on a coated wire rack and in pockets in my Liberty Safe's door liner. No problems after many years.

Back in 1970, my maternal grandfather passed away and left me his gun collection. There were several very valuable guns in it, including a Parker SxS shotgun, a J.P. Sauer & Son drilling and a Colt Lightning pump rifle plus other hunting shotguns and rifles, none of which were anything really special. They were stored in my aunt's attic in Cincinnati, Ohio, wrapped in canvas and blankets.

I wouldn't have thought it would happen in an attic in that part of the country, but they all were coated with rust! That taught me to always leave guns in open, dry air with a film of oil on them.

I think micro fiber cloths work by absorbing oils and smuges from your glasses, etc. I certainly wouldn't wrap my gun in one.

Thanks for the replies.

I am placing two guns on their side in a BARSKA Biometric safe.

One being a Beretta 96a1 and the other a S&W 44 mag 5" barrel. They are both loaded and stay loaded.

The problem is the inside height is barely high enough to stand the guns up vertically.

The inner dimensions of the safe.... 16¼ x 14¼ x 7h.

Any suggestions?

Right now they sleep on a soft micro-cloth.

A small dessacant packet should help.
I always wipe my guns after handling them with a silicone rag before putting them away.

Most of mine are on coated racks, but a few lay on the carpeted safe shelves. No problem after 20 years. I use Breakfree on all of them.

This was the answer I was kind of looking for. The BARSKA safe I use came with a gray hard capret inside.

Although they don't make any suggestions that the carpet is acceptable for directly storing your firearms on, I guess it will be fine as long as the guns are well oiled. I love oiling the guns, so this is not an issue.

The micro-cloth idea was dumb on my part.

I like the guns loaded and ready in the safe or I would use a sock.
