It seems to me that sellers may be avoiding showing the lock by showing the other side of the gun or angling the guns so that the thumb piece kind of blocks it. It seems like if there is no mention of it, it's the first question asked of the seller.
Since the lock is of concern to a lot of members of the site I think should be mentioned in the description or at least clearly shown in photos.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I agree...
I routinely see this on Gunbroker and other auction sites.

Good info to have. If you go to the S&W website they do the same thing so even they are aware of the drawback for many.
If S&W is so proud of the hole then I say it should be in the picture, long gone are the days of the full side pic and the only reason I can conclude is the lock. I really get annoyed when sellers avoid the hole with angle shots or a full shot of one side and not of the other. I to ask first and formost if it has the lock.
Well, duhhhhhhhhh...........
Up to here, people are talking about "sellers" hiding the lock in pics.
Naturally, this thread HAD to slide into lock bashing/S&W bashing, even though the lock
per se is NOT the topic. Hiding the lock in ads is the topic.
The three pics below are screen captures I just made from the S&W website using the 360 degree views of those three guns. Can you see the locks? If not, I'd recommend not driving.

You know guy's if you dont like a lock thread then don't post in it, its just that simple. Also if S&W is not ashamed of the lock then why did they change there pictures? Buler.....Buler....Buler.......they know why they did it. Sales deception is BS and taking advantage of new shooters who may not know is just bad for business. Also you guys that are tired of the lock threads are more then welcome to trade in your old S&W guns for lock guns and praise how great they are. Everyone said the days of no lock guns were over but now we are having some j frames without the locks. Why stop there?
Time to read this again, Smee-
LOCK- ..can't get past "the hole".
We now know YOU don't like the lock, but you DO like lock threads.
Don't keep turning every mention of the lock into the usual lock bash.
It gets tiresome. Let it go.
