HELP SUPPORT GUNS IN OUR SCHOOL! This is an unusual post, so I've asked for, and received, Admin approval for this great cause. I hope some of you may be able to help support our youth.
I retired from the Air Force in 2003 and immediately started teaching as a Junior ROTC instructor. Yes, I could have made more money doing something else, but I truly believe our youth need positive influences in their lives and wanted to do whatever I could to help them, our communities, and our country.
For the last five or six years I've dreamed of starting a Riflery Team at our high school. However, starting from nothing, and with no place to even practice, has made it difficult. However, things are starting to look up.
We received a school improvement grant to obtain a portable Air Rifle Range, and we also received three air rifles from the Friends of the NRA here in Georgia; one a Precision class air rifle and two Sporter class rifles.
We then set-up an endowment trust account with the MidwayUSA Foundation and were blessed when our local Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation made a donation into this account. We can now receive 5% of our balance each year, forever! Once we reach a certain balance, our yearly check will sustain us with most of our costs. What a great deal.
Even better, MidwayUSA has now sent us a rifle, for free, that we can use to raise money for our team as we see fit! Half of the money we raise will be deposited into OUR endowment account and then MidwayUSA will match our deposit 1:1! If we deposit $500, they'll deposit $500! If we deposit $2,000, they'll match it by depositing another $2,000! That's incredible! And the other half we raise will stay with our team for our immediate use! MidwayUSA and Larry and Brenda Potterfield truly believe in our youth and the impact these youth will have on our country!
Here's where you can help. I'm hoping that some of you will want to help support our youth and their new team so they'll be able to get the many things we still need to be competitive in Riflery. You'll also be able to possibly win this great rifle. We're going to have a drawing for the rifle and for each $10 donation, we'll put your name in the "box"!
The rifle in a limited edition Winchester Model 70 Super Grade in .280 Remington. Here are some highlights:
- Grade IV / V Full Fancy Walnut Stock with Shadowline Cheekpiece
- Highly Polished, Deep-Blued Metal Surfaces
- Pre- '64 Style Controlled Round feed with Claw Extractor
- Limited Edition of only 500 being made
- # of 500 engraved on the bolt
Here's a link to Winchester's website for more information and pictures of this fantastic rifle:

Again, for each $10 donation, we'll enter your name in the drawing. And remember, every dollar donated remains with our team! If you'd like to help support shooting sports our school, please make out a check or money order to RIDGELAND HIGH SCHOOL and mail to:
Ridgeland High School
Air Force Junior ROTC
2478 Happy Valley Road
Rossville, GA 30741-6009
I'll also need your name and contact information so I can place your info in our "box" for the drawing.
We're hoping to have at least 300 names in the "box", but would like to have more if we can get the support. The drawing will be held on 15 April so we don't even have two months until we announce the winner. If you're the lucky winner, our FFL will ship to yours or you can pick it up from him here in Northwest Georgia, about 10 miles from Chattanooga, TN.
Please let others know about this. The odds of winning are much better than by buying a Power Ball ticket! And the satisfaction of knowing you're helping these students will be priceless! Thanks for any support you may be able to provide. These kids, and I, will appreciate your generosity for years to come.
