Went to the Medina show yesterday seeking a specific gun: Model 29-2, blue, 8 3/8th.
Now, I already own the exact gun I just described....but it is a so-called "shooter-grade"....not quite mint...a few minor scratches, beautiful revolver.....just not pristine. Lately, I've been (seriously) bitten by the bug to own another as a show-piece in pristine condition, not so concerned about original box & tools (would be nice) but just want a mint example of what I already have.
My intention was to get up very early and be there before the doors opened. As I sat drinking my coffee getting ready to leave at 7:30 am.....I figured the approximate 1 hr. drive to Medina would put me there about a half hour before the doors opened at 9:00 am. Fine & dandy.
Suddenly it dawned on me that I needed to go to the bank and withdraw more cash when they open since my atm card will only allow so much cash per day......and I needed more cash just in case I ended up dealing with a private seller.
So....I had to wait until the bank opened at 9 before I could even consider leaving for the show. Got to the show at about 10:15 am. By the time I found a parking place and walked a quarter mile...got into the doors at about 10:45.
The result of all this delay is that I lost out on two buys by mere minutes......minutes!!
Miss out #1:
Spotted from several feet away in the crowd, I could see the 29-2 sitting in its case. As I got closer I realized a lucky gentleman was just closing his deal with the seller. As I looked on I spotted a price tag of $1000.00. I'm not sure if that's what the buyer actually paid.....I surely WOULD have given that it had the box & tools. The gun appeared positively mint, from where I was standing.
Miss out #2:
Missed an even better deal.
Chatting with a dealer, I mentioned what I was looking for and the man says: "oh, I just sold one earlier this morning for 8 bills.....no case & tools but mint gun".
Had I got there earlier I'd own one of these guns and I'd be posting pictures today .....of it posed with it's twin brother.
Oh well, another show coming up soon and this time I'll get there before the doors open AND I'll have a sign clipped to my shirt with what I'm seeking (I've seen guys do this!) The hunt continues......I've promised my 29-2 he'd have a twin brother by years end!
Same old story.....snooze you lose.
