Gunsmith in South Florida

Around West Palm Shoot Straight has an on site guy, so does Gator Guns. I'm not sure if Palm Beach Shooting Center does though. Are you around this area or farther south like Lauderdale or Miami?

Sid, who is the gun smith @ SS in WPB is very talented, & truly a nice guy. The owner of Palm Beach Shooting Center is a real whiz with 1911's, but he's got a 1 month turn around time. I'd see Sid @ SS. GARY

Actually I’m having a hard time finding a gunsmith here in Miami. The only one I know is the old man Fischer at 42nd St and 75 Ave. He's been there for more than 20 years. The last job I did with him was 3 years ago and I got disappointed with what he did so I don’t recommend him.

I called Sid from Shoot straight. He said the Apex kit for the Shield will be $100 and the labor $65. Turn around time 3 days. Good or bad?

If you are considering putting a trigger kit in a carry/self defense gun let me ask you why?

I work in a gun shop. And am an N.R.A. instructor.

When persons come to the store and try a trigger on a self defense gun
Then comment about whatever , grittiness ,heaviness . ....
My reply now and always will be ; In an actual self defense situation
the training you've done will go out the door.
The adrenaline will be flowing like mad and you most likely will not
remember rule 2 : KEEP YOU FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL ON TARGET
AND READY TO FIRE.

You will likely pull the gun and grab the trigger and pull until the threat is
averted OR ,, The Gun Is Empty. < (emphasis added. )

In my book the stiffer the trigger on a self defense / Carry pistol ,
the better off you are.

Is your Shield a target pistol??
Why all the concern about the smoothness and lightness of trigger pull.

Spend your $165.00 on ammunition and / Or training and become proficient
at producing your weapon and firing two rounds at close range in short time
under stressful conditions.

If then . And only then You decide the action on your gun is too gritty
or too stiff . invest in a trigger kit.

I hope this helps and is not taken the wrong way.

I do nothing to my carry guns. Be they auto pistol or revolver.
I keep them as they come from the factory.

Not modifying them will also avert a potential lawsuit over a '''modified'''
gun that was used to '' murder '' someone.
Just my opinion. ..Regards

What do you need to do ? I am in Hollywood a know a couple competent smiths.

E Mailo me with questions or to communicate.

In his day Steve Fischer was one of the masters. Sorry to hear you
had a bad experience with him.

Even though Smith says the trigger is 6.5lbs, it feels more like 8-9lbs. I pull on the gun to much when trying to pull the trigger which than makes me shoot inaccurately. I practice with the safety so activating it on and off is not an issue. But your input is defiantely invited and puts a good argument. I've never had a trigger kit and shooting with the heavy trigger was not enjoyable. I love my M&P 9mm compact and would do nothing to the trigger, but the Shield feel as heavy as my Bodyguard 380
