Had to replace my CHP and was pleasantly surprised.

I damaged my CHP so badly I had to get it replaced. I went to the York County, VA courthouse on Monday and applied for a replacement. It came in the mail today. I cannot believe it took only 2 days. Great service and those ladies obviously know what they are doing.

Up until a few years ago Montana permits were flimsy things, printed on yellow paper, not laminated, and I was told that it was illegal to have them laminated. I have a bad habit of running my wallet through the wash once every year or so and apparently the ink wasn't very good because I'd invariably end up with a blurry piece of blank yellow paper. Fortunately they have decent plastic ones now that look similar to a driver's license.

Ours are still paper but you can get them laminated if you want to. It costs $10.00 to replace the original. This should last me until I have to renew in 4 more years.

Yeah, in Virginia that's a county thing. My county (Clarke) laminates them for you, but you've got to pick them up at the Courthouse, where in other counties, they might mail them to you.

I don't understand the paper permit thing. I hate to advocate copying any aspect of Massachusetts firearms laws, but the LTC I had in Massachusetts was a plastic card like a driver's license with my picture and signature on it. I'd like to see Virginia go to something like that.

I'd like to see them go to plastic too but since they couldn't afford to make them lifetime I doubt they will have enough money to make them plastic.

They're not lifetime in Massachusetts either...and given that Virginia already has the equipment to make plastic driver's licenses I can't imagine it would be too expensive to go to plastic CCW permits.

My Alabama and Pennsylvania permits are paper. Pennsylvania's is like a flimsy little receipt. My other 4 permits are plastic like a drivers license.

I stopped by the police station last Friday in Alabama to renew my Alabama permit and the clerk at least laminated it this time.
