I used to winter camp with a small group of people in Zeleski State Forest in SE Ohio and at the time there were still a couple buildings left over from the mining days. One night we were sitting on a ridge overlooking one of those small town sites telling ghost stories. Suddenly we noticed a grey shape passing across one of the 2nd story windows in an old house down in the valley. None of us were willing to go down in the middle of the night to see what was in the house but the next morning we all went to investigate.
After cautiously going up the stairs much to our surprise we found an old grey horse wandering around the second floor of the house. The horse had apparently gone up the stairs but could not figure out how to get back down. We managed to get the horse down and turned it loose hoping it would wander home.
I don't exactly believe in ghosts as such but I do believe in spirits and I've seen a few things that I cannot explain. One of the dumbest things I ever heard regarding such things was a guy told me that he didn't believe in ghosts or spirits until as a teenager he was visiting a battlefield cemetery. He opened the back door of his car of his car and jokingly said "I don't believe in ghosts but if any are here you're welcome to hop in and come home with me." He said his house was not very restful for quite some time.
