Hammer push off question

I have a 29-3 that recently began exhibiting hammer push off. I have never touched the trigger or hammer surfaces, but I don't know if an idiot before me did or if it's simply due to wear. I bought it used years ago and didn't know enough to check it for push off at that time. I have not shot it that much, and checked the push off today after replacing the strain screw that the prior owner had obviously shortened. The mainspring and rebound spring are both stock (I even put new ones in to see if new springs would fix the issue, and they didn't). I will be contacting S&W and sending it in for repair. If it needs a new hammer and/or trigger, will S&W even repair it, or will I have to search for the old style parts and have a gunsmith work on it?

Push off is not that hard to fix especially if you can find one of the many guys here that have been to the factory armorers school. If you had your location in your profile it is possible one may contact you. Most likely, no new parts will be required and it has been reported that the factory has no forged H or T for the older guns.

The repair usually only requires sharpening the trigger bevel to the factory spec to restore function, unless the cocking notch in the hammer has been tampered with, or is damaged.

The factory teaches a "benchtop" method that requires only the proper procedure, patience, and the correct Norton 6" x 1/2" x 1/2" medium India stone. I've used this method many times to restore worn trigger bevels.

It's very likely that the model 29 doesn't need new parts, just a simple, 10 minute repair. It takes me longer to get the parts out of the gun and to re-install them than it does to re-sharpen the trigger bevel. Very simple, and anyone who can learn to properly disassemble the internals can learn this skill.

I had my 29-3 worked on the factory this year in February. They did have replacement parts. To replace the trigger and hammer I was charged $150. And took them 2 months.

If it matters (not to me) they replaced the parts with new MIM pieces.
And also gave me back the old parts.

Sometimes there is just a buildup of crud on those surfaces. I recently bought a 66 no dash with what I thought would require the above procedure. I opened it up, gave it a thorough cleaning, put it back together, and couldn't get it to push off.
Sometimes, we get lucky!
