I have a nickel plated 1968 model 36 no dash snub. I like to pocket carry the j-frame, and like the idea of a bodyguard style to maintain the single action for plinking at the range but minimizing snag potential.

Here's my options with questions:

1. Add a waller hammer shroud. Cheap and fairly easy but brings up two questions:
a.)Does drilling holes in a nickel gun frame increase the likelihood of flaking of the nickel?
b.)Does drilling holes and adding a hammer shroud ruin the resale value of the gun?

2. Get a j-frame bobbed hammer and install. Cheap, and allows conversion back to original for possible future resale. Might not be entirely snag free, but completely loses single-action ability.

3. Sell the gun and buy a stainless bodyguard or centennial. Probably the most difficult in time and money.

Looking for opinions. I just assume go for option #1 since I already own the shroud, but if it's going to kill the value of the gun or encourage nickel flaking -- I'll pass.

Any opinions, experiences?

Thanks

it's not a beater, but ffl charges would kill me buying something off gunbroker or trading what I have. The local area doesn't have much in the realm of well kept pre-locks, so I guess I'll pick up a second hammer and bob it and see if I like it. For less than 40$, I won't beat myself up too much if I don't like it.

I have no problems with the bobbed hammer on my 36!
