I was at my local gun shop as 2 idiots just passed there handgun test....They were looking at different pieces and the way they were talking I could tell they were absolutely clueless as to how to handle a firearm. One guy was telling the other how a 9mm would barely even hurt someone and it was not a good home defense weapon. The others argument was that his "homeboy" had one and he told him that it was way more accurate then a any other gun......The icing on the cake was they asked the gunsmith "how much is a box of bullets?"

IMO anyone that goes to a gun shop and asks for a box of "bullets" should have his ass thrown out!!!!!!!!!

They need to revamp that test and try a little harder to make it Idiot proof....

Better to give them just what they asked for, a box of "bullets". Surely the shop must have carried reloading supplies.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

In RI, you must have what is called a Blue Card in order to be able to purchase handguns in the State. To get a Blue Card, you can go into any gunshop and ask to take the test.

The test consists of about 50 questions, some of which are true or false, and all are very basic. Things like, "How old must you be to purchase a handgun in RI?" 16, 18, 21, 25? or, "To check to see if a gun is loaded, you should: A. Look down the barrel, B. Pull the trigger, or C. Open the action and see if there are any live rounds in the firearm.

OK, that question isn't really there, but most of the questions are almost that stupid! You give your answer sheet to the guy behind the counter, and he sends it into the state. A week or so later, your Blue Card shows up in your mailbox. It is NOT a carry permit. It just allows you to purchase handguns in this state.

Idiots! They are everywhere.

What really grinds my gears is when I go to one of the big gun shows in Tulsa and see a couple of homies, baggie pants, hat on crooked and down over the ears, a big bunch of cheapo bling around the neck, and talking like they had an IQ just below room temperature asking for "a box of nine"!

I believe everyone has a right to buy guns and ammunition, however the vendors also have the right to "sort it out, right on the spot"...if you know what I mean? (No pun intended!)

Yes this is profiling, however if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and talks like a duck...odds are it is probably a duck.

You just want to bitch slap these sleazy little thugs. You can't turn on the radio in the morning without hearing about another drive by shooting in the hood, and they kill them off at a rate of about one a week. Maybe this is Darwin's way of telling us something? Problem is, many times the victims are innocents. Just last night, and infant was shot in a drive by.

Yes, if you look and act like an ass hat, then you should not be sold anything. Just get the hell out.

I like to call my blue card my "I'm not too stupid to own a pistol" card.

Well, gunstores do sell only bullets, don't they? Should have sold these idiots a box of just bullets, just like they asked.

Now I can see some of there first comments making them idiots but to say someone asking for a box of bullets is and idiot and should be thrown out is wrong. Everytime I go with my Grandfather to get ammo he tells the clerk he wants a box of bullets for whatever caliber he needs them for and they give him a box of ammo. So I should tell the man that fought for his country in WWII as a Medic and recieved three purple hearts that he's and idiot and should be thrown out.
Maybe we should think about some of our comments, worsa things to worry about then terminology.

It's one thing when an obviously "young" idiot asks for a box of bullets, and when an old man of experience asks for a box of bullets. The former doesn't know any better, while the latter knows full well what he's asking for, and so can use whatever term he feels like using. Not to mention, it's pretty easy to tell the two apart....

Yeah I understand that and probably shouldn't have reacted to the post the way I did. However the comment that "The icing on the cake" was the fact that they didn't use the proper term was the last straw. Alot of people don't know proper terms, knowing that a bullet is only one component of ammunition makes a dicussion easier when asking for help but if someone doesn't know that why do people find it so neccasary to get upset. You see that all the time with new people on the boards, why not politely explain the difference so others can help them better. Not everyone is raised around firearms and we all had to learn from someone.

Sorry just one of those things I think we could all be alittle more patient with.

I was in the local retailer and a customer was asking about reloading and the salesperson told him that brand so & so were better heads than the other brands. The customer looked baffled so the salesguy showed him a box of heads (bullets). Sad, really really sad.

I've heard many people who know guns very well use
"bullets" for cartridges, rounds, etc.

It's no big deal any more than someone who puts his clip into his magazine-fed automatic---eh, pardon, me, his clip-fed semi-automatic pistol.

As to the 9mm, I've heard a lot of big boring big-bore fans thrash that puny caliber.

And is a revolver a pistol?

Now, where's that box of heads I just picked up?
I mean bullets not attached to their metallic torsos.

In my world Ive found it a big mistake to pre judge anyone. What I would have done is to strike up a conversation with these guys. They need help from those of us whove been around. Remember when you were new to this game? We need all the friends we can get.

OK the
"box of bullets" comment is becuase they had no idea in the difference between any type of bullet or ammo. That is the way a cholo asks for ammo. A person asking for cartridges and loading his own stuff is totally different. Bottom line, if you were standing next to me you wouldnt be questioning the quote, you would just know. By the way they looked, talked, acted, you could tell whatever firearm they picked up would probably be another incident in the future helping the demo's pass more gun laws...

Yeah and making friends with a couple gangsters and giving them ANY advice on firearms is something I will never do....

Should have mentioned they looked like bangbangers by the way....not hardcore but definately hang with that crowd.

I'm with you 100% dsoza. If you adopt that "gang banger look", in any way, that speaks volumes about you. You either are a scum bag...or that life style is attractive to you. We all "telegraph" to others a lot about ourselves by just how we present ourselves.

Clothes don't make the man, but they do give a lot of clues about you.

A person can be totally oblivious and not care about the clothes he wears, but that is an entirely different look than trying to look like a home boy....if you know what I mean?

I remember a guy back in the 70's walking into the gun shop , he had hair down to the middle of his back, beard, bellbottoms, and a bike outside. He had to be in his 20's
He asked for 2 box bullets for 357--Speer 158gr. jhp!
Then he asked for 1# of 2400.
When asked about primers he said he needed a brick of CCI 350's.
(because he also shot 44 mag. and he -needed- large pistol primers.)
The clerk never said a thing about the primers.
I doubt if the clerk even knew that the 350's was for large pistol.
The reason I bring this up is because anyone that would seen him buy the 350 primers would have thought he didn't KNOW what he needed.
But the thing was -he had a supply of 550 primers and didn't need any at the time.
He had been reloading 38spl, 357, 44spl. 44mag. and 30/06 along with 12ga. for close to 10 years.
And they were just the guns he reloaded for.
He also had been around the world 2 times and was on his way to Africa within the next two years.
The reason I know so much about this guy is because it was me!
I was never no gang banger, but I wasn't the model of the young man you would want your daughter to date.
Hard to judge just by looks sometimes.

I agree.....Judging "most" people based on their looks is profiling, pre-jugement, probably racists and a list of other things as well....But like Charlie said...Walks like a duck, looks like a duck, its probably a duck. Now there is that exception to the rule. I am sure there are those "gangbanger" look alikes who grew up in the ghetto and have parents and friends in gangs and dress like that becuase they dont know any other style(so they claim) and are really great people...But thats 1 out of 1000's and honestly I dont want to take that chance. Its not my job to try and figure out the good ones vs. the bad ones..IMO if you dont want to be potrayed as something then dont dress, talk, walk and act like them...Becuase If your walking, talking, dressing and acting like one you ARE ONE>.......

If they didnt look like gangbangers but more like a biker a probably would not come down so hard but I dont hear stories of bikers shooting little kids every night....Robbing old ladies...puling drive-bys....As you can tell I do have a hatred for gang members..

+1 jeb...for about a third of my career in law enforcement i too had long hair and didn't exactly look like a boy scout leader (although i was)i learned like you to not entirely judge someone based on their apperance
