Looking to swap the stock hand guard on my SW MP15 5.56 carbine. Seems replacement HGs are sold according to carbine length gas system, mid-length and rifle-length. Forgive my naiveté...but is mine carbine-length gas system? Would assume so. Also...how easy is it to swap these out?

Yes, carbine length. Easy to swap out... pull down the delta ring and pop them out. They come out in two pieces... youtube for further info.

I made this video a few years back. It should answer your question.

If you have the grip strength and dexterity to do it by hand, go for it. Give it a try.

The tool is cheap. I found it for $10 & change.

Each gun is different. My Sport I could barely pull down on the delta ring and needed the tool, my Colt the delta ring was easier and I removed the stock handguard without the tool. Each is different.

Same with the takedown pins. My Sports were super tight from the factory and I needed something to push with to start them, my Colt was just the opposite with the push pins much looser and easier to push with just my finger.

M14, I used the handles of a pair of channel locks. Butt stock on chair and pushed down. Really easy. Luckily my friends are long time ar shooters. I guess they've been through a lot.

I'm using the AB Arms hand guard in my CQB Sport. it has built in heat shields, and fit is great. I also really like the built in hand stop. AB Arms Hand guard

You can also use the grips of a pair of channel locks, but I've never had to use the tools.

EDIT: bubba beat me to it.

I mounted the B5 Systems carbine length keymod handguards to my irons only, lightweight AR-15.

I like their narrow diameter and the heat shields. It feels more narrow in circumference than stock 15-Sport handguards which already felt narrow. The keymod interfaces do not exist at the 12 and 6 O'clock positions. Keep this in mind if you want to mount a vertical grip.
