I've had a couple of the older "snake" guns but have always moved them along when given the opportunity.

Today I stopped in to the LGS to see a 19-3 2" nickel that I was told had come in..but not quite for sale yet. It had been riding in a belt holster for its whole life, so some travel wear. Round butt, service stocks, std trigger and hammer. No pics..sorry.

I then was handed the 4" Python they just got in.. I have to say..I was very very VERY impressed.

I could not find a fault or flaw..and the DA trigger pull was the BEST on any revolver I have ever felt, bar none.
SA trigger was 5-6lbs., a bit heavy for me...but broke clean.
Dark wood grips and a bright SS finish that was not over the top..but very close to nickel.

I wanted to not like it...but it WOW-ed me...enough to feel sorry for S&Ws modern offerings.

Bravo,Colt. Nicely done. I can now understand why people are raving about the new Pythons.

Everyone I have spoken with praises the new Colt handguns very highly. I own a 1911C in 45 acp and it was perfect right out of the box and shoots great.

The Python is very nice. I got a 4.25" early this year.

The reason for the heavier than desirable single-action trigger is it has to pass the California drop-test. If it wasn’t for that Colt could build the Pythons with a lighter pull for single-action. It can and has been gunsmithed better but for Colt to do it would cost them the CA market.

The new Cobras and King Cobras don’t have the same issue due to slightly different trigger geometry in their scaled down actions compared to the Python.

Colt may have a blue/black Python offered soon…in DLC…Diamond Like Coating. A few have been done in the Custom Shop on special orders…and they are stunning. It may be offered as a special catalog item.

Here you go, I added a new grip. The OEM Colt grip is a bit thin for my hand.

Over on the Colt forum, a guy sent his Stainless Python to Colt. It came back as a beautiful black Python with a near mirror finish. It was gorgeous.

Picked up a 6 inch as in MA that is the only one available. I think the pythons are great. I still love my Smith's but would love to get an Anaconda and a 4 inch python. Hopefully Colt will put the Anaconda on the roster in MA.

I bought a new Python in 4.25 " recently and have NO complaints . Was it expensive ? NO because in todays economy that's a reasonable price for such high quality . I wish they would come out with the Anaconda in 4" . That would definitely be my next purchase . I am considering the King Cobra in 3" .
I have been a S&W guy for many years but it seems like they are on a slow spiral downward , introducing new items that have no demand . My last experience with customer service / warranty work was the worst . I had a model 29-10 , 6.5" barrel that misfired continually . I sent it in with a note that I shot reloads . It came back 3wks later with a note stuck in the barrel telling me to only shoot factory ammo , " What a crock " ! I figured out that the firing pin was cut short . I bought a new firing pin from Brownells , installed it myself and the problem went away . I will purchase NO more new firearms from S&W . Regards Paul

I bought a new 629-6 Deluxe 3" bbl. a few months ago. I spent an excessive amount of time checking it over and could not find a fault. I fired 25 rds. Fiocchi 44 Spl. and 25 rds. Fiocchi 44 Mag. and POA/POI was great. S&W still makes a good revolver, but like everything else a careful inspection is needed.I think they are still a good company for revolvers.

I too have been pretty impressed with Colt's new Python / Anaconda line of revolvers. I have a new 6 inch Anaconda, and just picked up a 3 inch Python a few weeks ago. Already counting pennies for the first 4 inch Anaconda I see in the wild...

I've had a 6" Python for well over a year. Love the look and balance. I picked up a 3" and I'm not sure it's for me. Those same grips that are on the 6", feel thin and slick on the 3". I've changed the sights and that helps but I still haven't warmed up to it. Hoping to get some service grips on it after Christmas and see if that makes me like it.
