(Hangs head in shame) I bought a Taurus.

I bought a Taurus the other day. It was on sale, and I had a couple of store gift cards that dropped the price to around $225.00 so I figured I had nothing to lose really. I've never owned a Taurus semi before, but I'm somewhat a sucker for guns with a bad reputation.

The gun in question is a G-3, T.O.R.O., optics ready polymer framed, striker fired, semi, that comes with two magazines, one fifteen and one seventeen rounds. The trigger is a semi-conventional "Glock type" trigger, with the trigger dingus, but that allows second strike capability. Got a dud round? Just pull the trigger again. Oh, the trigger breaks about five pounds, but does have a long takeup before hitting "the wall." There is also a manual safety in the normal 1911 type position. Sights are white dot front, black rear, steel, using a Glock type mounting system to allow for use of any sight that will work on a glock.

The gun came with four mounting plates for various optics, something I probably won't take advantage of, but it's nice that it was there. Maybe someday.

I took it to the range, and put 100 rounds through it, all FMJ. Fifty Sarsilzmag left over from the great ammo shortage, and another 50 of blazer brass. No malfunctions of any kind. I shot it about as poorly as I do most other guns, but no worse.

I think I'm going to like this one. Excuse the pictures. The gun was dirty, and I could see I needed to clean the Ren Wax out of the roll marks.

Edited to add: I forgot to mention it's made in the USA...in a new plant in Bainbridge, Georgia.

Taurus really improved their product with the G2-4
series pistols. For the 2022 holiday season G2c's were
on sale locally for $214.00 out the door. And SIG
P226-9 magazines fit them. I never thought I would
carry a Taurus everyday but I am doing it. My trigger
is also in the 4 pound range. They are "good to go".

I own two of them and from what I hear from the guys that strictly own and shoot poly guns. They shoot a little better than a Glock for less than half the price.

Nothing wrong with Taurus. I had one of their L Frame size 5 shot 44 Specials. Fit and finish was good. DA pull was no where near as nice as my model 67 but I could still hit pretty good with it. Our local gun store has had Taurus G3 in stock at a really attractive price. I looked one over and it feels good in the hand. Our Brazilian friends know how to make guns and the G3 looks like a great value.

I have 4 plastic guns. I will buy no more. I don’t care how good they say they are or the price point. At my age and this time in my life, I am only buying firearms that have a heart and soul. I know I’m stepping on some toes, but that’s just me. Give me blue or give me stainless, with walnut of course.

Well, the "hangs head in shame" bit was a wink and a nod to all the Taurus bashers on the internet. I've owned I don't know how many Taurus revolvers over the years and always been quite happy with them. Just never owned a Taurus semi.

In my time on the forum I think this is the first time I have seen “Taurus” and “Ren-wax” mentioned in the same post!

Never heard of a Taurus and Ren Wax together? Well, actually the Ren wax was on the inside of a (leather) holster, not really on the gun. The holster is for a Glock 19, and was just a tad snug on the Taurus. The Ren Wax slicked it up enough to be Goldilocks "just right." I might tolerate a "plastic" gun, but not a plastic holster.

I'm going to run a few hundred more rounds through it, especially some hollow points, and it might become my new carry gun.

You forgot to add "Hrrrrumph!" :D:D:D:D

Seriously, a man's gotta follow his heart on that one. Having said that, I never gave them a second glance and chalked them up to 'Glock-wannbe's' until a buddy pulled out a G2C at the range and I shot it. Now one of my regular carry rotation pistols is a G3C that, as has been mentioned above, was purchased at a price point that couldn't be refused (for me). Hundreds of rounds without a bobble, they come with three metal mags, and they will take the Sig 229 mags. My only disappointment is that not long after I bought mine they came out with the TORO version and I would have grabbed that one instead had I known it was coming. Old eyes like red/green reflex sights.

I like it every bit as much as the Glocks it resides with, and though I seldom avail myself of its use, I like the thumb safety on it. You don't have a thing to be ashamed of with that purchase.

Still own any?

Another topic that's almost used up the internet discussing. Among the many Tauri - it has always seemed that there's some models they have down pat - work great for almost every buyer.
And - then there's 'others'. And for that they are cursed loudly.

Take a chance - enjoy!

No Mike I don't have any of them anymore. I'm one of those guys who buys and sells guns just to try them sometimes. All the Taurus revolvers I've owned were from the late 70's, to early 90's time period. Almost all had the original wood grips. Those Taurus "rounded" target grips were some of the most comfortable grips I've ever used.

Let's see...I had a Model 80, 82, 85 Those were 38 Specials. Model 66 and 65...357's. A 431...44 Special, and a 94 and 96 in 22 Long Rifle. They're the ones that I remember specifically. All nicely blued...well that Model 80, think of it as a 4" Model 10 type, had a flat blue finish, but it wasn't bad really. Put a coat of Ren Wax (there's that Ren Wax reference again) on them and they'd shine like a new penny. I wish I'd held onto that Model 65 (fixed sight 357...think Model 13) and the 431 five shot 44 Special. That was a cool gun.

Oh, I forgot to mention. The G-3 I bought...is made in the USA...Bainbridge, Georgia at their new plant.

Taurus has really come up in quality a great deal in the past few years. I don't currently own one, but I have owned several Taurus revolvers. Although nowhere near the quality of a Smith and Wesson, they were good seviceable guns for the short time I owned them. Something else always came up and I either swapped or sold them. Years ago I remember in discusssions with other shooters, that when you got a Taurus, you were taking a serious chance of getting a boat anchor with many problems, but I never experienced that. Enjoy you new gun.
