Over the last several weeks a bit of horse-trading and a little bit of cash has combined to produce a Beretta 92FS, a Rock Island Armory 1911 and (bells now start ringing) a pretty little 15-3. I was about to bust to shoot the RIA. So... 100 rds. of WWB 230 gr. FMJ's later, I was very pleased. At 10 yds. I could keep twenty shot strings inside 3 inches. The small front sight was a bit of a pill, but when I did my part, it was possible to put all shots into 2-2.5 inches. It came with one magazine that worked flawlessly. The owner of the gunshop also gave me a 8 round Promag which was a little stubborn feeding the top round or two. But I can't complain... it was free. The Beretta was faultless. It shot 15 round groups that were nice and round and perfectly centered. At 12 ydsthe final twenty rounds of the box went into the 10 ring. Cool. The be all to end all jump up and down performer of the day was the 15-3. At the same 10/12 yard distances, it put 20 shots into a group slightly smaller than a tennis ball. I then fired six rounds at the small silhouette in the upper left corner of the target making a nice 1 inch group. I then put the last 24 rounds into the 10 ring in the middle of the silhouette... most in the X ring firing double-action. The ammunition was plain Jane WW 130 gr. FMJ. I could not be more pleased with the RIA. It shot POI at POA at 12-15 yds. w/ standard 230 gr. FMJ ball. The Beretta runs perfectly, never missing a beat. And the 15-3 is just a beautiful piece of S&W elegance and precision, a real blast from the past... 1969 was a very very good year.
