I do watch the news for an hour or two a day but can't take much more of that. Today's modern movies are usually horrible other than maybe an old classic or foreign film which are now better than most films coming out of Hollywood there isn't much worth watching!

I have recently discovered all of the 1940's movies readily available on Youtube. They are usually of good quality, free and there are a plethora of them I have not seen yet. For those who are unaware, just go on YouTube and search for 1940's movies. There are many worthwhile watching and if you like that era of dress, automobiles, dialog and customs I think you wil have plenty to be entertained by.

Sometimes I think I was born a few decades too late. Movies from the 1930's to mid-1950's are appealing. At times, I wish I'd lived in that era. Seemingly simpler times, better-defined roles and expectations. But then reason takes over. Life wasn't like the movies. There were lots of trials and tribulations in those times that the movies didn't cover. I'm grateful for the goodness of life we have now that didn't exist then. Still, the fantasy of being Sam Spade, Philip Marlow or Rick Blaine persists. I do love the old movies. If it's in black & white, chances are I'll watch it (again).

You know these are a thing right?
I read a book or three every week with many genres represented in my mix. We watch a few movies on tv and the occasional series but basically turn it off in June and don't watch again until late fall, too much to do outside to waste time in front of a tv.

No TV at home for 30 years. Yes, I spend a lot of time on YouTube, more fun, often better done. Plus it's often interactive.
I haven't gone that route. There is good programming on TV that I'll watch intently. Then there's TV as background noise. I usually have the TV going when I'm working in my garage. It's far better than the background noise from my ex-wife; and it has an off button!

I have all the movies channels on DTV for $63.94 a month. The vast majority of movies I watch are on TCM though. There are several months when there is nothing I want to see on the pay movies channels but TCM is always there. Before when you could record stuff from Youtube I found a LOT of old Sci-fi/ horror movies 40's-60's there along with dozens of old tv shows from the the 50's -70's. The same with Tubi and Pluto. I have them loaded onto my laptop and connected to my tv with a HDMI cable. I can watch them when there is nothing on worthwhile.

Most TV shows today are the same old crap, and not worth watching. We don't and won't do streaming. As much as I enjoy football games and Nascar , when they go to all streaming, I'm done with both. Most of the time, we watch old movies or Nat. Geo, Animal Planet, History Channel, etc. The last good comedy shows were Last Man Standing, and the Golden Girls.

I rarely ever turn on the television. Usually it's my wife and usually she's watching cooking shows.

If I do turn on the TV it's to stream Pandora or Tune-In because my TV has better sound than my 30 YO Stereo

I have three cherry floor-to-ceiling bookcases stuffed with books. They are now just dustable decorations as no one has touched them in years.

Everything and anything in print is now available in scaleable formats via your portable magic glass viewports.

I don't collect books anymore. I buy 6-8 at the used bookstore, read them, and return them for someone else to read. I get a discount for returning them and then buy more. Yes, a library would be cheaper, but it keeps the little old lady running the bookstore in business. And she has plenty I want to read.
