Holiday weekend sale and I picked up a Troy low profile gas block for $25 in anticipation of floating the front. Seems it uses a couple grub screws to attach as compared to a pinch setup. Not sure I am crazy about this, but?

Will locktite hold?

I also got a Caldwell brass catcher that attaches with Velcro. Designed for the standard AR, it looks like it will work on the long throw, but not sure?

If you can have a smith dimple one of the set screw locations on the underside of the barrel, it will be a lot more secure. I used a clamp style since part of the block remained exposed. The issue with with the type you received is it puts pressure top and bottom and is not a full circumference "pinch". Dimpling the set screw location will ensure it cannot twist. In all reality, if it is completely covered by the forend it will not impact anything, and you will be just fine.

Agree with Gun Pup. Have the smith dimple the underside and you are GTG!

I recently added a 12" Apex hand guard and used the clamp on type of gas block. DEFINITELY the way to go. I read somewhere that they offered a tighter gas seal.
