Has price for 9 mm range ammo bottomed out for now

Actually it does have more than one claim to fame, like being the world standard NATO pistol and sub gun round :) At rifle range of 300 yds a 124 gr FMJ started at 1200 FPS or more arrives at over 800 FPS. I would bet that a lot of WW2 soldiers got a rude awakening when they thought they were out of harm's way of the Nazi's puny pistol ctg sub guns at a few hundred yards.

I didn't say it had only one claim to fame ... I said " It's biggest claim to fame was plentiful and cheap ammo " Don't put words in my mouth and brow beat me for saying something you said ...
That's not right .

Smart move

LOL, experience. I NEVER buy me anything without getting her something. After all, how can she yell at me for spending when I'm handing her a MK bag or watch, or Gucci bag or whatever I find interesting?

I did make that mistake once when I had to rent a uhaul to bring home the ammo from an Estate sale, I was so thrilled at the treasure haul I'd made I totally forgot about the wife, it's a good thing we have spare bedrooms.

Oops. You momentarily forgot, "Happy wife, happy life."

As far as the 30 Super Carry, I can see it eating into 380 sales, if the guns and ammo are available.

While sitting here listing to the birds chirp and drinking coffee that may sound like a lot of power, in real life combat I'm not so sure about that.

In Jeff Cooper's red book he talks about meeting a former SS Officer who fought on the Eastern Front. He said in one battle he took 3 rounds to the shoulder from a burp gun and did not even know he'd been hit until later when he was cleaning up. Unless a small caliber pistol round hits a bone it highly likely to just punch through causing little damage.

It's reasonably easy to find 9mm online at about $16.50/50, plus shipping. But there are still a lot of sites trying to get $25+ for 50. They'll end up eating those and the numbers will come down.

Ah yes, personal antidotes from the great Jeff Cooper. :D Everybody knows that if it ain't .45 then it won't hurt you :p And everybody knows that a small caliber bullet that just punches completely through your upper body without hitting major bones is nothing to worry about ☠️ Any volunteers?

One of Cooper's profound pronouncements was about the handload he put together for his wife's model 60 J frame snubby. It was a .38 spl load of 5.0 grs of Red Dot with the old Speer 160 gr half jacket soft point bullet. He claimed the velocity was 1,000 FPS out of the model 60 😂😂😂 I'd sure like to have some of that Red Dot!

My advice is to go on one of the sites that does free shipping and buy some ammo now as the demand/market is fluid. The money you save waiting might well be money lost if you procrastinate. Bite the bullet (pardon the pun) and buy some ammo to put back as we never know what the future holds......

Yesterday I ran 50 rounds of the 9mm CCI 115 gr. FMJ through my small pistol. Operated fine and was accurate to boot. So I took your advice and bought 10 Bove's at $16.50 plus about $25 shipping.

Now I can go to the range and shoot without worrying that I am down to my last box of ammo.

Price per round of 9mm ammo depends on what brand and type of ammo. Take just 115 gr FMJ for example. Brass case is still around .30 or more. Steel case Russian, well, in the .27-29 range.
I don't use any steel case in any of my pistols. My preference is brass.
So, I think we are about as low as it is going to go. Or very close to it right now. I agree with CB3 post #17.
I have been through many of these so called shortages for a number of decades. And stocked up every time I saw it start to bottom out again.

So, now I don't need any for a few more years to come.

I sure hope $16.00/50 to $16.50/50 is not going to be the new bottom price.

Sometimes I just don't feel like loading the 9mm and it's nice to just grab a few boxes and go to the range.

+1;

at $10 a box I will buy the ammo for new brass and enjoy not having to load it.
I will wait until it hits $14.99 before I but factory ammo again
but , I'm cheap. ( Irish blood ? )

I bet $15 will be a floor for a little while with 9mm. At this point it makes more sense for manufacturers to start producing other rounds and sell them in the $20 to $25 range per box rather than keep flooding the market with 9mm. We'll probably see more 45 ACP, .40 S&W, .38 Special, .357 Magnum and all the other rounds become available and drop in price some before we see 9mm drop back into the $12.50 range.

.357 Mag is still selling for $.80 to $1 per round. .38 Special is $.60 a round If I was manufacturing ammo it seems like switching production over to those would be a more profitable option rather devoting resources for stuff that sells at half the price.

I agree with you. My online sources of ammo are beginning to have more .380 and even 38 Special coming in now. Not a lot, but they have some. Lots of 40 S&W it seems. I feel the change over of calibers may have just begun recently.
