Just like the title says: Has Smith ever made a modern .45 Colt revolver?

A friend of mine is getting me interested in the .45 Colt cartridge but I'm not a fan of heavy Ruger revolvers that are heavy, weigh +5 lbs and are heavy.

Any alternatives?

That aren't heavy?

Thanks,

I bought the 25-15 "Classic" in nickel two years ago. I really like it, lock, stock and barrel.

Ahrends retro combat grips

They also made a 25-13 "Mountain Gun". 4" barrel. Nice gun.

625 mountain gun is about as light as you are going to find in a normal production gun. I love mine and will never sell it.

Smith made the Model 25-5 for a good while, with both 4" and 6" with un-tapered barrels. I imagine the 4" might be a little lighter than a Ruger. The Mountain Guns with tapered barrels are even a bit lighter than that.

They've made a few. As noted previously; 25-5, 625 and 25 Mountain Guns, and the more recent Classic Series......all in 45 Colt. They show up used here ane there. Here are a couple, a 625-6 MG and a 625-11.

The .45 Colt S & W revolvers are not rated for heavier loadings, as the Rugers and T/C Contenders are. If this is not a concern, all the S & Ws will be lighter weight.

Don't forget the Governor also, the .45/.410 shotgun combo gun.

Ok, great stuff! For some reason, I associated the Model 25 with .45 ACP just like the 325PD.

Thanks for the help!

Better hurry, there were only several thousand .45 Colt Smiths made in the past 30+ years. :)
Get one before they dry up forever.

Get a Mountain Gun if you can find one. My 625-6 will be one of the last to go and it won't go willingly.

Here is my 25-5 4" made in 1980. Very nice revolver. If you can find one, buy it.

And forum members own half of them!

Seriously, the 625 Mountain Gun is an excellent revolver. It is light enough to carry all day. They aren't rated for the "Ruger Only" loadings, but even at standard pressures, a 250 grain lead slug at 1000 fps or so is nothing to laugh at. I seem to remember reading that the original, 19th Century loading would shoot through a horse at 100 yards.

I would upload a pic of mine, but my "smart" phone isn't smart enough... or maybe it is me... :D

I've got 2, the 25-5 I carried at work in the 80s & a later pre-MIM Mountain Gun.
Neither is for sale. :)

Mountain Gun

I have a M25-9 Mountain Gun. It has the hated internal lock but it has been a reliable and accurate revolver. I just ignore the lock. I use the same load in it as in my Colt SAA's...250gr, hardcast LSWC over Titegroup and a Federal standard large primer in Starline cases. I get about 900+/- fps. That load does everything I want in a general use revolver. I got my 625 back when I was doing the CAS thing and wanted a DA revolver for carry after matches that used the same ammo. As others have said, mine isn't going anywhere while I'm above ground.
