Have all M&P Issues been resolved?

gun was run over by the department 4x4, then a cruiser, then tied to a bumper for for a ride and then set on fire. The end result was that the weapon still fired
Wow! Talk about deja vu...sounds like a third generation sidearm...
Due to several factors, price, your praise, rebate, made by S&W, my brother and myself are awaiting Santa's big, brown sleigh w/Model 209300 in the bag. I'm trying to wean him towards wheelguns. I figured I might as well try one even though I've nevah fired a dao in my life.

I bought a standard m&p 9mm last week out of curiosity. It was made in October.
I took it to the range yesterday.
I fired 150 rounds of JHP. I experienced no problems or difficulty at all.
My conclusion is that it is nothing special.
It is a standard full capacity 9mm pistol that should serve 90% of the peoples needs who want such a pistol. Smith appears to have a product they can put against Glock now. It's about time.

John!

I expect it to go bang when I pull the trigger.

From earlier searches I can only hope that I don't unintentionally articulate the magazine release button...

The only way my mags come out of the gun is when I make them drop out. I can bump it all day long and nothing happens, I must firmly press the release button in order to drop the mag. Mine was made in 2006. ( M&P .40 full size, over 7000 rounds and is flawless). Hope this helps you out...
Randy

2000 rounds through my M&P.40, almost all cheap blazer or whinchester with ZERO problems. I was not aware of any of the above mentioned problems, my magazine release requires a firm press.

Well, I'm going to send mine back to Smith as my mag drops are an on going problem. I also read in here about the light primer strikes and I have already experienced one squib round in only 300 rounds fired (which I at first attributed to the ammo but now I much question the gun). Wonder what the holiday schedule is like at Smith. This is disappointing at best and disconcerting at the worst. This is going to my primary carry gun and I dont want any issues.

Follow up after todays range session...Made sure I kept my thumb away from the mag release button, 100 rounds NO mag drops.

Just looking at your handle, I was curious if a D/A wheelguns grip wasn't being used? As a wise man with a LOT of stripes once told me, "Tums forward!"

I have only recently gone from wheelguns to autoloaders, so yes I have had to "concentrate" on my grip. The compact requires more "concentration" than the 1911 but I always make sure now to put my right thumb on top of the left (support). As a wheelgunner I used a thumbs locked grip, so no doubt this created issues with the compact. That's why we practice, right?

I just looked at the M&P on S&W's website.

Nope, it's still butt ugly.

I picked mine up yesterday. For a duty gun it's lightweight, 4 1/4" barrel is not too long to conceal, yet it packs a 15 round magazine in 40. My OTD was $453.50 and I opt for the two new mags over the 50 buck rebate. It nevah was designed to win beauty contests. It was designed to beat the other plastique fantastiques through quality, features, lifetime guarantee and customer service second to none.

Of course, mag drop is one reason why many of the old school European pistols have the release at the heel.

Am I the only person that agrees that a heel release is the best for a service pistol? Its going to be a pretty rare event changing mags in a real world defensive shooting situation.

I agree with you 100%...

If you want to go old school and be free of mag drop pack a couple of 1895 Russki Nagants and have 14 rounds of trouble free 7.62.

Those horseless carriages have been known to malfunction so you need to choose between a mule and a horse for your steed...

if you're having mag drop problems and aren't sure of the cause, swap the release to the other side and put a few hundred rounds through it, if you're a wheel gunner and this is your first auto you might keep it that way

I've got an early .40 that I'm eventually going to send back to replace the slide stop and eliminate the mag safety. I also have the 9, 9c, and .45. I haven't had any problems with any of them. I carry an issue Glock 22 but would be carrying one of the Smith's if allowed. I carry one of the Smith's (I'm qualified on all of them) when off duty. I wish they made a medium size 10 MM.

I don't mean to be a ding-dong-the-witch-is-dead party-pooper, but the mag drop problems that have been experienced by some with the M&P pistols are real, and their owners are understandably upset about it, especially due to the fact that the problem still isn't fixed after multiple trips back to S&W for repair.

My personal experience with the M&P pistol line has been cursed by the mag drop problem on all three of my (former) M&P pistols (40, 40C and 9C). After sending my pistols back two times each for mag dropping, I had enough and gave up. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the M&P's ergonomics and simplicity of design. That makes my disappointment of my expectations for the gun even stronger.

I've come to the following conclusions regarding the M&P pistol design, regarding the design of the mag catch specifically:
1. The mag catch spring is too weak and offers too little resistance to inadvertent actuation.
2. It's all too easy to just bump the mag catch button and have the mag pop out under recoil, due to an unprotected mag release button (not flush with the frame) and to minimal engagement area between the mag catch tooth and the cutout in the magazine. I can "bump" the mag catch button on my XD pistols until the cows come home, but the mags stay put.
3. The mag to mag-well tolerances are too sloppy and the mag just flops around inside, providing an even greater chance the mag will disengage from the mag catch, especially on the compacts.

To all those who claim their M&P is "problem free", I am anxious to know if your M&P pistols (40, 9, 40C or 9C) are free of any or all of the three characteristics listed above.
None of those issues are present in my M&P9 or M&P9c.

My M&P9c (no mag or thumb safety) is about a month old now, with a round count of about 800. So far at least, it's perked right along with zero malfunctions of any kind. Trigger has improved all on it's own with use, oddly? The magazine release has gotten easier to push, but not in any way that threatens to drop it prematurely. Only temporary change I plan for now, is blacking out the rear sights "dots". She's been a fine little gun so far and is far more accurate than I would have expected? That, along with no does anything wrong issues has warmed me up to it quite a bit!
