Posting this here because most of the guns I'm shooting are revolvers from this era.

Most folks are concerned with the ammo shortage. I am too, but not so much for myself. I have thousands and thousands of rounds. .38 sp,, 9mm, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .22lr, as well as .223/5.56.

I decided "what the heck. I'm 72. I need to shoot some." Haven't shot a whole lot in the last few years. I have guns I've never fired. One, an AR I bought over a year and a half ago, I took out Tuesday. Just shot a couple of mags to make sure it works. Yesterday I shot about 50 rounds of .38 sp in an old beat up 3 inch Model 37. Today, about 75 rounds in my 15-3.

You know what? Shooting those revolvers is FUN! The AR, not so much. I decided today that I'm going to shoot a few rounds through something just about every day. It is a four minute ride in my Kawasaki Mule to the back forty, and paper plates with a 1 inch bull scribbled on them are cheap.

I have been accumulating ammo for 15-20 years. Also, reloading components. My brother and I bought a widow's ammo a couple years ago. She and her husband were close friends of ours, so we spent days sorting his stuff and cataloguing it. We sold some, but wound up buying most of the 9mm, .22, .45 ACP, and .223 ourselves. Good deal for all concerned.

About four years back, I gave my Dillon Sq Deal B to a friend, with the provision that he load me 5000 rounds of .38 sp, and 3000 rounds of .45 Colt, using components supplied by me. Again, a good deal for both parties.

Tomorrow, I intend to put 100 rounds or so through my Model 14-3. I have had it for 3-4 years, probably haven't shot it 50 times. Next day, a Model 64 Ibought a few weeks ago. I need to shoot all the j-frames in my carry rotation, just for familiarization. Also, I need to get my wife, daughter, and son in law out to refresh their skills.

I've got the time, the acreage, and the ammo. Why not?

Paper plates are my go to targets. I put fluorescent small circular price tags in the center or use the black or orange "patches" from shoot-n-see targets that people leave at the range. When guns, ammo etc are so high its nice to have a cheap alternative to targets. Plus I'm no bullseye shooter … just a plinker. HAVE FUN SHOOTING WITH THE FAMILY.

Some of the most fun I've had was shooting at pop cans dangling from a tree limb with string. They don't have to be stood back up, and sometimes you get a moving target! :)

Very good post, I fully agree you shoot use the guns, the ammo and the fun times it all provides.

Shoot all the ammo you want brother; life's too short!! I'm kinda in the opposite position as you. I have maybe 300 .38 wadcutters and about 450-500 .45 ball. My wife has about 500 rounds of .380 ammo for her Shield EZ. No ammo around here at even a close to reasonable price. Be glad when it gets better but it probably won't be anytime soon. Have fun and shoot some for me!!!

Other than making me envious (I didn't prepare as well as I should have before the **** hit the fan), I think you've got a great idea and I hope you and your family get to enjoy that ammo!
