Have an M&P 22? How do you like it?

There is a police supply S&W and Remington dealer in my neck of the woods. I asked them if they sold to the public, and they replied yes, they just don't advertise to the public. They have enough of a problem keeping up with their police sales.

I have been putting Federal Champion bulk through mine now and it shoots and shoots without a hiccup. No more leading so thanks to those folks that recommended the copper plated bullets.
I guess it didn't like the greasy lead ammo. Thanks guys.

As my post indicated, I paid $281. Why I paid $281 was never asked. To say I don't know the difference between a 22A and an M&P.22 is an insult.

That said, the indication that I bought it from a police supply vendor is clue two.

And I stress, many people qualify as 'first responders'. I am not a LEO, a bodyguard, a fireman and don't work security. Yet I qualified and you may also. I think it's worth the look to see if you do.

The offensive post was where you completely discounted my information as being wrong and uninformed. You should take your 'serious questioning' and seriously question why you would pay more for an M&P.

I think you're being overly sensitive. Your lack of transparency was simply confusing to others in this post. I simply stated that 1)you either bought it a special price not available to the public at large or 2)you might be confused as to the exact model we were discussing. As you confirmed, I was correct.

I've seen more than one person mistakenly think a reference to the M&P 22 was referring to the M&P 15-22. It's neither a stretch nor an insult to think you might have thought we were discussing one of the other S&W .22LR caliber pistols. The M&P 22 is after all very new on the market - many people don't know about it.

Slide material ?

Does anyone know if these have aluminum or steel slides ?

The Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito have alum. which I don't care for

I believe the Walther P22 uses a MIM based upon zinc. The M&P 22 uses an aluminum alloy, according to the specs on the S&W site.

I have an M&P 22 on order. I went with it because I believe the aluminum alloy will hold up better than the zinc of the P22. I have heard of some P22s getting hairline cracks after several thousand rounds.

I'm not an expert in metallurgy and would welcome any to step up and clarify the differences between the zinc MIM and the alum alloy as far as durability is concerned.

I want the 22 for the less expensive target practice but mostly for my wife to get into shooting and get comfortable before moving up to my 9mm.

Same for me. I've been using 3-4 100 ct. boxes of 9mm each weekend. The .22 would be real nice to have.

I should be getting mine this month, if the estimates are correct. Like your avatar!

M&P 22

I've had mine about 2 months now & really like it. 6 o'clock hold on mine as well. I wish it was just a tad heavier for a little better stability, but it's not bad. It will be a good trainer for my M&P PRO 9mm, which is my favorite pistol. I will be glad when S&W finally has a supply of the 12 round magazines for the M&P 22. The 10 rounders are available, but no 12's yet to my knowledge.

Had some leading issues today with Winchester anniversary 36gr copper plated. Only shot about 150 rounds. Pain to clean. Took about an hour to get it all out.

I'd say an hour is pretty fast. When I do complete teardowns of any pistol it's like a 3 hour ordeal. But that's complete frame and slide take down.
