Have you actually used a weapon in an SD situation.

I'm interested in the technique involved in firing a rifle from a moving motor vehicle at a moving motor vehicle on a public roadway . . .

I've wondered about the technique involved in firing from a moving platform at a moving target, occasionally. The world being what it is today, I'm not sure I want that in my search history ... :)

I don't mind at all, and have posted this story under my actual name.

Don't want to get shot? Don't try to run people off the road in the middle of the night.

By the way, they made collapsing stocks for the H&K 91 and 93 series...

He was trying to force us off the road in the middle of the night, in an unpopulated area.

Your narrative has changed. Your initial account was that he was preventing you from passing.

A driver passed us, pulled in front and started slowing down while weaving from side to side to prevent us from passing. He looked up in the rear view mirror to find himself staring down the business end of an HK-93.

I've typed enough on this.

That's a distinction without a difference.

What's the purpose of slowing down and weaving in front of somebody? He wanted us to STOP. To what END? What GOOD end could he have in mind? Did we win the Publisher's Clearing House contest? Neither of us had even entered. And his car was too small for that big check.

What's your advice, that we just stop dead in the middle of the interstate so that we could get rear ended by an eighteen wheeler... or get shot in the middle of the road and have our car taken... like the woman in Toledo whom Alton Coleman killed to get her car?

I'm not seeing you offering a lot of alternatives.

Actually, I didn't see you offer ANY alternative... not even ONE...

Some years ago I was hanging Christmas lights on my front porch one night. Had my S&W 915 in a holster on my hip, but pretty much concealed given the heavy clothing due to it being in December and at night. I thought I heard the leaves in the front yard, under a tree, rustle. I stared into the inky blackness, but couldn't see anything given it was dark out there, and the porch light pretty much robbed me of my night vision. I chalked it up to wind and continued hanging the lights. Then I heard the rustle of leaves again. Turning, I saw nothing, but my spidy senses were tingling so I reached down and popped the safety off my firearm in a deliberate manner as to make it as loud and obvious as possible. Then the person who was standing under the tree watching me made a hasty retreat out of my yard.

Well, lucky not to get your finger shot off but I'll bet it hurt like bejeezes when the adrenaline died down.

Yeah, it's kinda funny now, at the time it felt like a bee sting or something. Later on it felt like a engine block had been dropped on it. It's been rumored that I said more than a few gosh darn its, apparently over the air.

I have no clear recollection of that aspect in time. ;)

Yes I have had 4 different times where having a gun has stopped an aggressive person from robbing me. As a Photojournalist I carry lots of expensive gear. It is my job tools,
After one football game, halftime, I headed out, got my shots to go back to the office. These two dudes followed me through the parking lot. At the time I carried a S&W 4516 (small 45). I stopped, turned around with gun in hand and like jackrabbits they went in different directions.
My girlfriend and I were at a rest stop reading a map when three hillbilly types got out of their old red truck. They started to fill water jugs. This was way out in no mans land, we could not start my VW van without a good roll downhill. They started mouthing off what they were going to do to my girlfriend, so all three started walking over to our car. I stepped ou of the van with my S&W Model 19 at my side... they scrambled back to their truck. I was thinking they were going for their shotguns, but they jumped in the old truck cursing a blue streek and took off. We opened both doors so the wind caught the doors like a sail and we were off.
Same van, we were parked behind a gas station in Baton Rouge FL late one night. Some idiot was trying to open the drivers wing window, he had his hand in the window when I laid the barrel of the S&W M19 on his arm... wow did he run fast.
The last time was this big black bear stold my food bag and came back for me. I had my Model 65 357 mag with me, well we both lived.
Over seas I had two other encounters but I was unarmed. Still lived.

In the states I have learned to never touch your defensive ammo when loading up, both revolvers and auto loaders. Never forgot that lesson.

Twice. In one case, it was someone beating on the door of my home in the early morning hours; in the other, it was a motel room door at about the same time of day.

In both cases, I had a Model 19 in hand but held behind my body. Neither situation required displaying or using the revolver.

I have no desire to shoot anyone, and I work hard at avoiding people, situations, and locations where shooting becomes my last option.

As someone here once said "The best way to win a gunfight is to not show up".

Many times.

Scores of times, literally, in my professional career. But these are better described as 'pro-active use' rather than self defense.

And more often than you might think, multiple occasions wherein 'use' of a gun was needed were off duty and out of primary jurisdiction.

That said, on each and every occasion the continuum of force was duly used/considered and EVERY SINGLE TIME THE USE OF MY GUN WAS REPORTED AND DOCUMENTED. That includes departmental reporting even when off duty and out of primary jurisdiction.

I was held accountable...and held myself accountable.

Be safe.

Yes, once. August 19, 1992 during an attempted armed robbery at my automobile restoration facility (the Model Garage of Palm Beach) in West Palm Beach, Florida. One purp died 13 days later from multiple gunshot wounds, the other purp went away for a 10 year stretch. That was with a Model 36 Chief's Special, 5 standard velocity (pressed flush to case) target loads with the standard S&W (small) grips.

This same pair of bad guys started that day by robbing a 7/11 at 9AM, then the local US Post Office at appx noon, and ended their spree at my shop at about 3PM. All these places are within 5 blocks of each other.

In that same month of August 1992, within a mile of my shop, a pawn shop owner was shot and killed, a butcher store was robbed the owner shot but lived and the local Supermarket was robbed. In all instances the victims fought back in self defense and returned fire at the bad guys.

Took my revolver or pistol out of the holster numerous times during my 30 year career. I never shot it except at the range.

I am a photographer as well and often have four grand worth of gear on my back. I used to dress to look like a homeless guy when I would shoot alone in NYC.
