Have You Ever Been Profiled?

As I was taught in the academy, to a prosecutor or judge, the difference between profiling and reasonable suspicion is articulation.

I get profiled by a local big and tall clothing store; they keep mailing me their catalogs.

Heh heh, I had the same thing happen years ago--only instead of getting Finger Hut, I now get L.L. Bean.

Haven't been over there in a while, but when crossing the border between Juarez and El Paso, always state your nationality as "American" not "Texan".

The last time I crossed from Matamoros to Brownsville circa 93-94, I was asked that but stated: Confederate. This guy had a sense of humor--grinned and let the four of us pass. BTW, at that time, my cap of choice was a good repo of a Confederate Cavalryman's Kepi--which had Cav yellow a branch of service.

Almost forgot about this'n. In the post office there was a poster on one wall warning people about being victims of mail fraud etc. The "bad guy" is pictured and is bald headed and has a mustache and goat-tee...JUST LIKE ME!?!? I asked the post master one day If he thought I was a bad guy. He said NO SIR why would you ask me that? I didn't say anything but pointed to the picture on the wall. He looked at it and looked at me and he said he was sorry and that it was unintentional. While I watched, he walked over and tore the poster off the wall I said my thank yous and walked out, satisfied.

But the worst cut of all came from my grandson. When he was about 7 years old he was drawing some pictures of his favorite cartoon/comic book characters. He showed it to me and there was a bald guy with the mustache and goat-tee. I asked him who that was and he said it's the bad guy.

I asked him if he thought Grandpa was a bad guy. He thought for a moment and looked me right in the eye and said, "Yeah." sigh....

The worse I got was a fine for drinking underage. The profile part comes from the fact that i was with a girl and while i was just looking for a place to shake off too much booze the female officer was in fear for my companions safety. So she said. The only time i touch a woman is to show affection. It was absurd to be thrown against a van patted down etc when i was doing nothing wrong.

As i got older i realize laws for the most part are designed to protect the rich and the elite and are not really about keeping me or my love ones safe.
