Does anybody have any experience with using Hogdon's Titegroup powderer loading 148gr HBWC for a Model 52-2? I just got the pistol and have started loading with 2.9 gr of Bullseye. The load is accurate and functions reliably however Bullseye is hard to come by at a reasonable price. I had been using the bullseye for 45 ACP but am considering a change to titegroup. Was hoping I could get a good load with it for my 52. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Personal experience none! However, check the burn rate for the intended powder. For the 52 with the wadcutters you'll need a fairly fast burning powder to get the results & function you want - IMO.

3.1 grains with a Hornady 148 Gr HBWC is accurate enough to hit a squirrels head at 25 yards and functions my 52-1 all the time. I don’t shoot the bullseye game anymore, haven’t in years. But this is deadly on small game. Head shots waste zero meat, unless you are into the brains- no thanks, the wife and I don’t care for them.

I am loading 2.8 grains of 452AA powder out of a 8 pound keg I got in the late 70's for 28.00. Its accurate and has been discountinued for years but I go with what works for me. Jeff

Bullseye I like the best but 700x and 231 will do the job. If you are going to use Titegroup I would start at 3 grains and see if that locked the slide back. Some powders are accurate with a hbwc but powders like American Select will blow the base off. There is a reason some powders aren't listed for a hbwc. You need to stay under 750 fps to be safe. Here is an old safe wad cuter chart.

Availability of Bullseye is poor, I checked the better known www dealers and visited a generally well stocked store today. No Bull.
I am down to my last can and thinking about substitutes.

Hodgdon thinks 2.7 to 3.3 grains Titegroup is the range for a wadcutter. You cannot go by their velocities, they are shot in a 7.7" barrel for some odd reason.

I have an MP Mold that drops an HG50 style HBWC bullet @ 128grains after powder coating. I use them in several revolvers and get excellent results with 2.8 gr of titegroup and a light crimp in the crimp groove.

I am not sure if this load will even fit in your 52 magazines as they are 1.275-1.280 OAL and not sure if they will cycle either. But it should give you an idea of where to start.

Check out the Bullseye.net forum, great place for Bullseye reloading info.

May I ask what book this chart is from.
