Health and Fitness Thread

I have come to a conclusion.
Whenever I try to push it harder at the gym, I do gain strength but inevitably the shoulder that I injured decades ago starts hurting. Then I havta back off until it gets better.
It's a cycle I've been doing over and over.
I've decided that I'm getting kinda tired of having a painful shoulder and I'm just gonna work at maintaining what I've got while keeping my bodyfat in the low double digits.
I still get a great workout and a really good pump but I'm not hurting my joints.
On non-workout days, I've been doing at least an hour of home cardio.
So, tomorrow's a cardio day.
My next workout day's on Monday and if we get the kinda snow that they say we're gonna get, it'll be a home workout.
I ain't gonna risk my shiny new truck even if it's a 4wd.

Got a pretty good home workout today. I can tell it's been a while since I've done wide grip pull ups.
At the gym, I do parallel or neutral grip pull ups.
I also did lotsa push ups, standing dumbbell curls, one hand overhead triceps extensions and seated over head presses with a pair of 25 pound dumbbells.
Lotsa crunches on my slant board.
after all that, I grabbed a snow shovel, dug a path to the truck and cleared the truck off for some cardio.
I did find out that the truck's 4wd works by driving it to the Post Office to pick up my mail.
It's a good thing that I picked my mail up. There's a new cigar catalog with the latest deals.
Anyway, home cardio tomorrow followed by a big pot of hot chili with ground bison.

Home cardio today.
Either the tension on Lisa's elliptical's getting slack or I'll definitely be ready when hiking season comes around again.
Usually, I run the tension at 5 or 6, today I had it cranked up to 12.
According to the display, I burned 'bout 350 calories in a bit over half an hour.
After that it was half an hour on the home spin bike. Dunno how many calories burned. It's an antique and the display doesn't work.
Felt pretty good, maybe it was the home made bison breakfast burrito this morning?

Wayne, I think about you sometimes. Then I see one of your posts. I am glad to see that you can still choogle with the best of them. I know that Lisa is looking down at you...with a big smile on her face. Carry on my friend.

Decided to stay home and go to the gym tomorrow.
This morning they called for snow showers. Then a little later, after I did my home cardio, they called for no snow, just cold.
Now it's snowing and they're calling for more a bit later.
Anyway, I did kinda push it for for today's cardio. I've been using Lisa's elliptical at level 12, went to level it up and discovered that level 12 is as high as it goes.
Looking forward to tomorrow's gym visit.
For the rest of the day I'm gonna be doing more clearing and reorganizing.

Strained my back a bit shoveling snow yesterday. I shoulda worn my back support Like Lisa told me to.
Good thing Lisa made sure to get me a cushy recliner with a heater and back massager when she got her new sofa.

Still, I got a pretty good home workout.
Tomorrow, it's home cardio and I may brave the cold to go across my back yard to get my masonry bits and wall anchors.

The temps finally got above freezing and the wind died down a bit so it was off to the gym.
Not many people there and I got a pretty good workout.
Tomorrow, I'm planning on high protein waffles and some home cardio.
Maybe I'll make my way out to the garage and get my hammer drill so I can finally hang that mirror.

I've been driving the truck ever since we had the snow earlier in the month.
Today, I decided to drive Lisa's little Toyota Yaris to the gym. After a month of hibernation, it just fired right up.
Not only does that car get up to 42 mpg but it's a lot of fun to drive.

At the gym, I felt great.
After the last time I hurt my shoulder, I decreased my workout weights and increased my reps. I'm staying with that and I'm still getting a great workout.
I've been thinking of notching my workout weights but every time I do that, I reinjure my shoulder.

Got my next reassessment scheduled for March 20th. Actually, it's just a ride on the Tanita body composition scale, maybe get measured.
My workouts have been a bit less weight, higher reps to near failure and 3 to 5 minutes between sets.
I've found that I can still get a pretty good workout with less strain on my joints.
For my diet, I've just been eating healthy without focusing too much on carbs and protein but rather, just keeping everything balanced.
We'll see how that's been working when I see what the Tanita says.

Okay, I admit it, I pushed it a bit harder at the gym today.
Not a lot, I just went to failure on a three different exercises then did an extra drop set. That was on the chest press, lat. pull down and seated chest flies. On everything else, I just went to failure.
I'm still doing higher rep and lower weight.

Good workout today.
Either the gravity was turned down a bit or the workouts I've been doing are having some effect.
I'm still doing higher reps to failure with an extra drop set or two after the last set.
Today was the last workout before my next reassessment.
We'll see how it goes.
Tomorrow's supposed to be a really nice day. Good for a bike ride.
Unfortunately, I have an appointment to take care of some business in Cumberland.
Fortunately, Wednesday's supposed to be nice too....

Strapped on my boots and went for the first hike of the year today.
Went on my usual trail and ended up going 4.6 miles in 'bout 2 hours.
It was nice hiking a familiar trail that Lisa and I spent lotsa time on.
Yesterday in Cumberland Md, after taking care of business, I had time to get the truck washed and plenty of time after I got home for the first cigar of the year.
Tomorrow, it's off to the gym and a ride on their Tanita body composition scale.

The results are in.
I'm 163.4 pounds and 12.2% bodyfat. That's 4 pounds up in 6 months and my bodyfat dropped by .4%.
Apparently, I gained 4 pounds of lean mass. Seems like my new workouts are working.
Judging from the measurements, it's mostly in my upper back/chest area.
My physique rating is "thin and muscular."
Anyway, that puts me 1.6 pounds short of my goal of a lean 165 pounds.
Maybe by Summer?
