Health and Fitness Thread

Last time I visited my sister, she asked if I would take her mountain bike home with me so it would be there when she came over to go for a ride in the C&O Canal Towpath.
Today she came out and we had a nice ride, going 19.84 miles in 3 hours and 6 minutes. According to my Garmin watch, I burned 685 calories.
While we were on the Towpath, she made some observations on changes and adjustments she'd like to make on her bike.
Fortunately I had a lot of those parts in stock.
I did have to order an $8 handlebar adapter and she's gonna bring a coupla tires for my to throw on next time she comes by.
I asked her to make sure to bring a six pack of beer with her for my labor charge.
I'm thinking of going for a hike tomorrow.

Interesting workout today.
The lifting station I usually use for bench presses was being used so I decided to use the chest press machine instead.
I could really feel it working my chest and I'm gonna stick with it for a while.
Anyway, I was 163 pounds this morning and I have one more week before my next reassessment.
I was 158 pounds and 11.9% bodyfat on my last assessment and
I've gained 5 pounds since then, it'll be interesting to see what this one says.

Good day for a bike ride today.
I took off from my back yard and took the connector trail to the C&O Canal Towpath.
I didn't bother taking my Garmin watch and just rode for 'bout an hour. I figured I probably went 20 miles or so.
Lisa woulda really liked riding the new upgraded surface on the Towpath.
The words to express how much I miss her don't exist.

It was a warm sunny day I went for a nice hike today. Dunno how far I went but I wandered around for about 2 hours.
When I got home, I noticed that my grass needed cutting.
I guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.
I also want to put the seat covers back on my truck.
Sunday's looking good for a bike ride.

Went for a bike ride on the C&O Canal Towpath today. Started from my back yard and took the connector trail to the Towpath. Ended up going 20.48 miles in 2 hours and 5 minutes. That time does include stopping for rest stops, eating a power bar and looking at turtles.
Wonderful day for a bike ride.
Tomorrow it's off to the gym.

My sister came out and we went for a nice bike ride on the C&O Canal Towpath. We ended up going 21.06 miles in 2 hours and 41 minutes. According to my Garmin watch I burned 722 calories.
Started out kinda cool out but warmed up nicely.
I'm cooking chicken and rice for supper. Gonna get my post ride protein and carbs.

Beautiful warm sunny day with a nice breeze.
I decided to go for a hike, sat down, cleared my mind and asked Lisa which trail?
Last time I did this, a sunny trail at a local resort popped into my head.
This time, it was a side trail off the C&O Canal Towpath.
So, off I went. The trees are starting to change and parts of the trail looked like a picture post card.
Just beautiful. Probably why Lisa wanted me to take that trail.
I didn't bother with my Garmin watch. From past experience, I know it was 'bout 5 miles.
Tomorrow, it's off to the gym.

Pretty good workout today.
Apparently the chicken and rice supper after yesterdays hike worked.
Not a really big boost in strength and energy since the last workout but I did feel a bit better.
Anyway, in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, I cooked a big pot hot of bison chili for supper and it came out really yummy.
I'll probably have some more for breakfast tomorrow.

While they were in my front yard digging up the water, sewer pipes and shutting off my water. I decided to just go for a hike and talk to Lisa for a little while.
Wonderful warm sunny day and lotsa fall colors.
I ended up going 4.56 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes. The temps got up to 85 degrees.

The water was back on by the time I got home.

Interesting day at the gym today.
I switched up my workout by increasing the tempo of my reps. Same weights just faster reps.
Interesting thing is that I've gained a coupla pounds.
Today I think I found out why.
Along with the quicker reps, I also increased my workout weights.
Felt pretty good and got a good pump.

Not sure what it was but I felt great at the gym today.
Had lotsa energy and felt good enough to increase some of my workout weights again.
Maybe because I'm doing quicker reps?
Also, I've switched from doing pulldowns to doing pullups and honestly, I got a great pump in my upper back.
I have a home pullup bar in the entranceway to my kitchen and whenever I go to my kitchen for a snack, I havta stop and do 3 to 5 wide grip pull ups first.
Also, if it's a home day, like tomorrow, I havta to do at least an hour of cardio.
I have a home spin bike and elliptical. It can be split between the two but it needs to add up to at least an hour.
I've got parts for a bicycle that my sister gave Lisa but she preferred riding her old bike.
I'm gonna refit it and take it for a ride on Wednesday.

Just got back from my annual old man check up.
My blood work was described as "beautiful" and my blood pressure, heart rate and o2 saturation levels were all "very good."
I'll take it.

I got the parts I needed to refit the bicycle that Lisa didn't ride much today and I plan to take it for a test ride tomorrow.

For today, I still need to do another half hour of cardio yet to feel as if I earned supper.

Today's cardio took me out to the C&O Canal Towpath.
My sister gave her old bike to Lisa a few years ago. Lisa named it Jolene and rode it once, instead preferring to ride her old bike.

Jolene's been hanging in the garage and I planned on using it as spare parts.
Until now.
My sister and I have been riding bikes together and she had me take her mountain bike home with me so she can use it when she comes over to ride the Towpath with me.
I did some work on it to make it more comfortable for her to ride. I put on titanium handle bars with carbon fiber bar ends, lock on grips, a RaceFace stem and spd platform pedals. She gave me a pair of smoother, better rolling tires and I installed them too.
All parts I had in stock from decades of cycling, repairing and building bikes, 'cept the tires.

Now I did some work on Jolene to make it more comfortable for me to ride.
All it needed was a pair of grips and a seat. Everything else is adjusting. I plan to leave it in my sisters garage to ride on her local trails.

Anyway, I took Jolene for a ride today and went 15.38 miles in 1 hour and 44 minutes. That includes stopping to do some adjusting. According to my Garmin watch I burned 550 calories.
