And he replied - basically saying he is going to vote against it, but in a nice way of course!
Dear Mr. XXXXXX
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 367, the Hearing Protection Act. As a supporter of both the Second Amendment and sensible gun control measures that increase public safety, I appreciate your concern for this issue.
Protecting the Second Amendment rights of Americans has long been a priority of mine as a public servant. I believe that responsible Americans should be able to make the decision about whether or not owning and carrying a firearm is the right choice for them and their families. While I respect the constitutional right to carry firearms, I am also concerned by the availability of firearm suppressors should the Hearing Protection Act become law.
As you know, H.R. 367 is a bill that would amend the Internal Revenue Code to remove a transfer tax on firearm suppressors and remove them from the purview of the National Firearms Act of 1934. This would allow for the availability of unregulated firearm suppressors across the United States. Currently, firearm suppressors are legal in the State of Tennessee for citizen use and the process required to legally obtain a firearm suppressor allows the freedom for responsible expression of the Second Amendment while keeping these products out of the hands of those who would use them illegally. Please be assured that I will continue to follow the Hearing Protection Act, and I will keep your thoughts in mind as I do.
It is important to me to hear the views of my constituents. Please feel free to contact me at any time in the future to voice your opinions on issues before Congress. As always, I remain.
Most sincerely,
