C 422,XXX is listed as 1957-59. If it's a steel frame .38 special and it's not marked "MOD-10" in the yoke cut, it's a post-war .38 M&P (Military & Police). Model numbers were assigned in 1957 and some folks call the post-war non-model marked guns a Pre-Model 10.
