I prefer a wire wheel on my one horsepower grinder to remove rust, but that belt sander did the trick

Took the vintage Smith out to the range late this afternoon with my 6" Ruger GP100 for a little back-to-back comparo. I actually like shooting .38 special a bit better than full house 357 with the Smith . It was cloudy and dark, so the Smith did put out some pretty impressive muzzle flash with .357! Nice shooter, I need to work on the sights a bit, shoots about 4" low.

Receipt for Combat Magnum

The receipt came today in the mail, "Waltz Sporting Goods, 105 S. Pugh St., State College, PA, June 25, 1958. 1 - 357 S&W Combat Mag, 4" barrel, No. K 317xxx, Pd. In Full"

Looked on Google Maps, photo of address shows older 3-story building with some kind of business.
Waltz Sporting Goods is apparently long gone, but it looks like the building is still there.

One of these bad boys (in pristine condition with box, tools, papers) just sold on GB for $1,826. Serial 261606.
That one has the SN stamped inside the ejector rod shroud.

I saw that sale. Gun looked nice, but was paired with the wrong sight tool, and the wrong bore brush. Because of the incorrect tools I also suspect it may not be the original box.

Well, I felt a little uneasy about popping off random rounds at the range with a family heirloom, and that Smith looked awful lonely in the gun cabinet with all those Rugers and the Colt, so I bought a companion 19-3, 6-inch barrel Model 19 to keep it company.
