I see a lot of carping by old fogeys who think atheletes are getting "free rides" by playing sports for a university. First of all, they were recruited by the university, and possibly promised the moon. Second, the atheletes and big name coaches bring in big money for the college. Money that supports not only other sports, but other departments. Money that they can use to bring in pompous old professors, that nobody would ever pay a dime to see. A top quarterback or coach is worth 50 professors. How many people can play top college quarterback? 2 or 3? Any half wit can be a college professor. The Heisman is for only the current year, period. If you don't like it, invent your own award. I've always wondered, what's the big deal about the NY Atheletic Club? I think an award by say, The Dallas Atheletic Club would be more prestigious.
