Hellcat, P365 and the Shield

Out of the three, I like the 365. Handled a SAS model yesterday. The sight is pretty cool. I agree, S&W will need to do something to stay relevant in this segment. Even though I like the 365, my 938 SAS is still my carry gun when not carrying my 340pd.

For some people, the Shield will fit their needs perfectly.... Excellent!
For others, the 365 is the perfect piece created with Divine intervention.... That's beautiful!
And for another chunk of the AMERICAN shooting population.... I'm sure the Hellcat will be the best thing ever invented.... Again, this is wonderful!

Everyone has different needs/priorities/expectations.... just think of all the NEW models and variations that have come out in the last few years DESPITE ever increasing pushes for more gun control!! Only in the USA can we enjoy this.... I'm glad for each and every new "choice" that comes out, even if I never see or touch a particular one. I LIKE OPTIONS.

Since retiring, I've been on a never-ending quest (thanks to the gun manufacturers) to find the best concealed carry pistol. Damn people keep coming up with new ones, and I just have to try them all. At the moment, I have a G43, a G43X, a Shield 9mm, a Shield 9mm PC 4" with RDS, a Shield .45 and a P365 SAS. I've also had a G48 and the original P365.

The G43 is a great little gun, but doesn't have sufficient capacity if that's what you're looking for. 6 + 1 rounds ain't bad, it just doesn't compare to many of the others. The G43X is a very nice little gun that I carry quite a bit; enough capacity and still quite concealable. I really like my Shields, and the 9mm was what I bought immediately when it came out; quite concealable with reasonable capacity. Same holds true for the Shield .45, which I use primarily when I'm out hiking around the desert. The Shield 9mm PC with RDS is a sweet little gun and I'm quite happy with the RDS option. I'll wait and see on the Hellcat. I don't know what it can do that the P365 can't, other than one round of capacity.

The P365 SAS is new to me, but I have owned the original P365. I find these little guns to be very concealable, reliable (now), accurate and providing plenty of capacity. The only complaint I have about the P365 SAS is getting used to the sighting system and the fact that mine does not seem to have enough tritium to function without any light. I've contacted Sig and got a shipping label; the slide and sights go back Monday. I took the SAS to the range last weekend and bench-rested it to get an accuracy check and become accustomed to the sights. I only went out to 10 yards, but was able to get some very nice groups once I figured out where it was printing compared to the sight picture. I think these tritium/fiber-optic sights will be good for defensive shooting. They are not bullseye target sights, but they will allow for man-sized hits at reasonable ranges. Now that the prior issues seem to have been handled, I'll likely get another standard sighted P365 and an XL with the Sig Romeo 0 RDS.

In short, I'm quite fond of the Sig P365 in terms of capacity, reliability, accuracy, and overall function, but I've yet to find any one of the listed guns that can't fill the bill depending on your needs and desires. Whoops, almost forgot to mention the Kahr PM9. This one also qualifies, IMHO.

The hellcat is THICKER and WIDER than either the shield or the P365...

Actually the hellcat is the same thickness as 365, one inch. It is a tiny bit longer and a tiny bit shorter and it has one more round than the Sig.

I love my 365 and pocket carry daily to work. I also love my XD9 Mod.2 so honestly, I might compare the hellcat to my 365 and choose one to keep. We'll see.

Yes, Smith needs to bring something to market because the potential sales are indeed there. This category is very hot right now. I suspect Glock will also rework the 43.

43x was the rework. I don't see another happening soon.

I think the red dots that come on the Hellcat are great. Now, one step further. Make the sight fold flat, and have it automatically deploy when drawn from the holster!! Any manufacturers reading this???!!!

Threads like this always intrigue me. I mentioned in another forum that the Sig 365 would be all that till "The Next Big Thing" came along. Well, here we are. The capacity crowd's drooling over the Hellcat like teenagers over the Playmate of the Month. Well, whatever floats your boat. The advantage my Shields have over the latest & greatest? They're bought and paid for and I can shred the X ring with both. MHO? I'll take 8 rounds of Federal HST in 45acp over any Wonder 9 any day of the week. Flame on.

LOL...have to agree with Donn..... been watching the ongoing search for the next latest and greatest.... prefect concealed carry gun..... since I got my first 4"Model 10 in 1978.

For better or worse ..... it seems that nothing is never small enough, light enough, or holds enough rounds .......... SAO,DA/SA, DAO, striker fired..... name it.... its been touted as the latest and greatest..... only to be usurped by the next latest and greatest.............................................

"New" alone doesn't make it better .... just new......

I've stuck with the tried and true S&W 3913 since 1990/91.......If I think I'm going to need more than 7+1 in my Burb of the Burgh........ give me my PC Shorty-9 or a Beretta 92 Compact or Smith 915.......... better yet if I'm going to need more than 8+1 w/ 2 spare mags....... make mine a long gun with a 30 rd magazine. :D

Does anyone read/understand? Size, capacity, reliability, accuracy, done.

OK, so you "only need 5, 6, 7" good for you. I carry 13 in a totally reliable, accurate, smaller gun, give me one good reason not to.

Meh... none of these new whiz bang guns give me any reason to want to replace my Kahr PM9.
Loved my CM9 for a long time until I got the Sig P 365. It is just as easy to carry in a pocket and the trigger is better. It has night sights, if that is important. It is easier for me to shoot accurately. 25 yards off hand isn't a problem keeping shots within the A zone, off-hand. My buddy who has fired more rounds than just about anybody I know, except a Navy Seal (I don't know any Seals) is heavy in to S&W M&P's and the Shield. All of his S&W's have been modified. After shooting my P 365, he bought one and pocket carries it daily (unmodified). So if you are happy with your Kahr keep it. It is a very fine pistol, but don't try out a Sig P 365 or you might become unfaithful.

It sounds like I'm one of the few here that still really like the Shield. I have had one for several years and although I have tried the 365, 43, 43X, and 48, I still keep coming back to the Shield.

I have zero interest in the Ruger from hell.

The Shield fits my hand better and I shoot it better. I also am very frugal and like that the Shield 1.0 is about half the price or less than the others.

Don't take it wrong: I loved mine, still do. When I first got talked into trying one, I thought it was a God-send. A pocket pistol that carried like a small gun and shot like a large gun.

But the capacity factor means the 365 has passed it by.

I don't think anyone said you shouldn't carry what you want to carry. Firearms are not one size fits all. You find what suites your wants and wishes and carry it until you find something different that better suites your needs. Just because you have something smaller that holds more rounds does not mean its better, it's just better for you at the current point and time in space.

Yeah, the capacity isn't as big a concern as being able to shoot well with my carry gun.

I carry a J-frame a lot so the Shield is my higher capacity option unless I want to carry my G19.5 or something similar.

S&WOkie, nope - my Shields aren't going anywhere. They still have a spot in my carry guns. I know they always work and work well, in my experience with them.

Nope I have (2) EZ's a 9mm PC and a .45 PC and absolutely love them but I carry a 365XL daily. It is a better carry fit for me which is why I bought it the extra rounds are just a bonus. I had a 365 that was stolen which is when I purchased the 365XL

Loved my Shield PC .45 until I bought a P365. With a 12 round mag (12+1), you can't beat it.

I also have a Kahr PM9 and it's not reliable at all. Ammo gets stuck on the feed ramp. Sent the barrel to Kahr, they sent it back and ammo still gets stuck on the feed ramp. Kahr sent me a new barrel and....you guessed it, ammo gets stuck on the feed ramp. Yes, I tried a variety ammo.

One self-important blow-hard Youtuber who hasn't even touched a Hellcat thinks the P365 SAS is the better choice.

Shields are currently $199 at PSA including rebate. The Shield 2.0 is $279, I'm tempted to get the original Shield w/ safety and work on the trigger if needed. The Shield is about perfect in every way except it doesn't have as high a capacity but that doesn't bother me much.
