HI-Dee-HO from the "Frozen North"!
(actually not too bad, high of 62F today!)

BTW what are your laws like regarding guns and such? There is a manufacturer in Belgium that is well-known, right?

Welcome from Colorado.

Wife and I spent a lot of time in Belgium when we were stationed in Germany. Belgium was our favorite place to visit. We would go up there at least once a month and sometimes more often. There was a little cafe near the flea market in Tongren that has the best hot chocolate and best pastries we've ever had.

Our favorite areas were Liege, Tongren and I'm drawing a blank on the name of the other town. It had a huge flea market once or twice a year. Beautiful country and great food.

Thanks to all for your nice welcome messages.

Photocosmo, about the gun legislation here, I am envious about the way you can almost walk out with a new gun in the US ;-). In Belgium, the only reason you can get a gun for, is sport shooting (or collection, but then you are barely allowed to shoot the gun - once a year- and you can only hold 10 cartrides per gun). You also need to make your way through a jungle of theoretical tests about the law, showing skills in practical tests, your doctor needs to testify you’re sane, you need to be in a shooting club and shoot at least twelve times a year, you should have a blank criminal record (which is ok of course), etc … I am not saying this is stopping me (twelve times to the range is the easiest to comply with, as I am there at least every other week), but the worst about all this is waiting for the new permit you need to apply for EVERY other gun you want. The longest period I have been waiting for it was 19 months ! Fortunately, there is not a limit like max 5 guns as in the Netherlands.
Since 2007, they have finally legally approved a 'Sport's Shooter Licence', which is yearly renewable, same entry conditions as mentioned above, but once obtained it allows you to buy almost any log gun, and .22 auto pistols (with max 5 shot magazines) only, which you then need to register. No revolvers or center fire auto's, those are only on individual permit. But again, if you love shooting, you can live with it.

K.38, I am happy you enjoyed Belgium, which is indeed a very good place to live, with crime very low and so, and plenty of flea markets indeed, ... where it's forbidden to sell any gun related stuff :-) Was the town you think of not Hasselt, having loads of traditional happenings besides flea markets ? Anyhow, you're welcome back any time.

Talk to you all later,

Photocosmo, we are indeed proud of the Belgian 'Fabrique Nationale' (FN), which is into the Browning group, and has made loads of great guns like the 9mm HP and predecessors of the Buckmark (and long guns as well). You're not surprised I guess if I tell you I have one of both

.

We use to have loads of gun manufacturors in the past, but they're all gone like dust in the wind. Luckily for the rubbish 'Revolver belge', which tended to be most dangerous for the one holding it, not the one in front of it

Welcome, I trained with your Army while stationed in Germany during the early 80's. I believe the exercise was called Roaring Lion or Golden Lion and it took place in the North Central part of Germany. My unit 1/48th Infantry was the only US force involved. I loved the fresh bread that was distributed , but the canned cow tongue left something to be desired. Well enough rambling and once again welcome
