I have a question regarding model 17's, I have a 17-6 without the full underlug and a 17-6 with the full underlug, there is someone who says they have a 17-5 with the full underlug, all are the 6 inch version. I would appreciate your input.

The Standard Catalog 4th Ed. mentions on page 216, under M17 Engineering and production changes, 17-6 1990 Full lug barrel with new yoke retention system. -Some early 17-6's reported without full lug.
One paragraph up from that, it says, 17-5 1988 New yoke retention system/radius stud package. -1989 Model Discontinued for model 17-6, full lug version.
So it appears there are M17-5, and -6, that have full lug versions and no lug versions. The way I understand the descriptions, S&W discontinued the M17 at the dash-5 and reissued the model as a dash-6, with the underlug on the new model version. There would be a normal overlap, since some guns are already on the assembly line when such a change is made. It's cool you have one of each.
