I get a lot of solicitation calls with that delay before they answer my hello. I give it two beats and then just hang up. I was expecting that when I answered a call yesterday, but a female immediately asked if I was (my name). I answered yes thinking it may be about "grips". She then said "I bought a gun from you a few years ago".... and my brain took off in overdrive in all kinds of directions like pond ice cracking just before you fall through. Was it stolen? Was it used in a robbery - suicide - MURDER ? Have you been contacted by the police, sherrif -ATF -FBI ? Did YOU shoot somebody --accidentally --on purpose? Did it malfunction - break - EXPLODE ? Why are you calling ME !?!
All that was in the time she took to inhale to get the next part out ......
"I don't have any ammunition for it and I can't find any to buy". "Do you have any you could sell me" ? ..... PHEW !! (blood pressure going back down now)
After a little more discussion, I began to remember her and her husband buying a nice M10-5 from me at my gun show table where I was just "thinning the herd" a bit (about 3 years ago). The were both around 65-70 and were first time gun buyers (It was a LONG tedious transaction). Evidently NOW was the time they felt the need to have it READY for use, but they had never bought any ammo for it. They had kept my name and number with the gun so that's how they were able to contact me. I did some calling to gun store people I know and was able to "hook her up" with some of those "deadly hollow points" she was wanting.
